*Sigh* So, this pop-up greets me upon logging into tumblr on Opera to attempt to browse this hellsite without the obnoxious auto-play video ads. Sorry tumblr, but you donāt listen to your users and I donāt have money to spend on any SM subscription ATM (and even if I did, the siteās still swarming with p0rnbots, thereās that stupid new āliveā feature I canāt turn off permanently AND the latest iteration of the app crashes often. In fact, the very outdated version of the app I often use on another device is 10 times more stable and has no video ads, but unfortunately no polls either.
I donāt mind supporting tumblr in other ways, but Iām NEVER paying a monthly subscription ONLY for you to stop overstimulating my poor neurodivergent brain with auto-play video ads.
Worst part is, even using this version of the site only fixes half my problem. Thereās no way to turn off autoplay on browser-even with no ads-so while I at least see auto-play videos and gifs that I have somewhat chosen to see, my poor brain STILL has to deal with auto-play. Is it slightly less disruptive to see content Iāve curated auto-playing on my feed rather than obnoxious flashy mobile game ads? Yes. Would I much rather see nothing at all auto-play? DEFINITELY.
I guess Iāll start using the site to browse polls in peace and use the outdated app on my other device for most everything else (although even my ancient app has a āTumblr Liveā snooze button-funny that they managed to brute-force THAT feature into an ancient app version-but not polls). š¤
The level of stress and panic that netflix's trailer auto-play instills in me when I'm just MINDING my business trying to choose a show to watch while I eat pickles in my underwear in the dark is honestly unnecessary, and not something I should be made to feel in my own home.

I can't check out my dashboard completely because one of the people that I follow has posted a video that auto-plays when I scroll down. I'm at work and don't want my phone to play audio. Why the hell do videos auto-play now, wtf?! I still haven't found a way to mute the Firefox mobile browser. Audio will still be played despite my phone being set to "mute".

Google, Apple and all major browsers declared war on autoplay videos. this is bad news to advertisers and all entrepreneurs who relies on video marketing. By baking new ad blocking tools into their web browsers, They have made it clear they donāt like certain types of web ads ā in particular, video ads that play automatically with the sound on.
Many consumers probably agree.
