The Falling

all those girls their paper knees folding under them

and the tree so still and the wind running fingers through the leaves

all those girls their long smooth hair waiting, waiting for someone

anyone to run their fingers through it and the tree so still

pulling them under it back to it to carve their initials

into its hard soft skin all those girls crumpling falling like song birds

out of the sky and a mother a poor mother

out in the night dragging her daughter pulling her out of the water

holding her up waiting, waiting for the breath to come

Autograph tree and Cannas

At the side of the carport I planted two autograph trees and an azalea in between them. I had gardenias there before, but they got sick and died (no more gardenias for me). I hope the autograph trees grow fast and can be maintained easily. There are also a few cannas I planted in spring from the  rhizomes I dug out in winter stored in a ziploc. But  I needed more, so I  used a small shovel to split off some newly growing cannas in spring as well. I think anything you do to plant the rhizomes in other places works fine with the cannas. That’s why I love them so much.
