🌌 M51 - Whirlpool Galaxy Stretching roughly 76,000 light years across and located around 31 million light years away, we have two interacting galaxies - left, a grand design spiral gaxaly (NGC 5194), right, a Seyfert 2 active galactic necleus (NGC 5195). The smaller Seyfert galaxy is passing behind and is thought to be causing the birth of new stars in the upper arm of the spiral galaxy through tidal interactions (unfortunately in trying to remove the light pollution I've removed detail from this arm, but you can see the end of the arm in front of the smaller galaxy and can easily trace where the arm is).
