NGC 5643 - Spiral Galaxy

A true tale of two halves, with a seyfert II supermassive black hole pulling in huge amount of material and behaving like a baby quasar, lighting up the central section, with it's creamy colouring from the older stars that populate that area.

Then there is the outer spiral arms, diamond blue with pink nebula motif, an area of large star formation twisting around.

The galaxy also shows some signs of interaction, not being quite symmetrical.

The galaxy is the same size as our Milky Way, but this would be a fairly hostile area of the universe for life, the radiation from the centre would penetrate many 10,000's of light years in, and every area seems to be abundant with blue stars, that remember live short and dramatic lives, in other words, potential supernova's all around you, just a single one could render life unlivable, or at least, life as we know it.

Still, even in these hostile places, there are areas quiet enough to potentially allow life to form, just as we see even in the most hostile places on Earth itself.

Galaxia espiral en Canes Venatici, situada a unos 25 millones de AL de casa. Es una galaxia Seyfert, con un núcleo activo que genera cantidades enormes de radiación X, posiblemente en relación con un agujero negro central engullendo materia que, a medida que se acerca a éste, por el rozamiento y la velocidad que alcanza emite la radiación.

Desde el cielo urbano es muy difícil de observar a través del ocular. Sin embargo, con equipo fotográfico, siempre será posible obtener una imagen aceptable a pesar de la contaminación lumínica.

If not perfect, then this spiral galaxy is at least one of the most photogenic, containing billions of stars. It is situated about 40 million light-years away toward the constellation of the Dolphinfish (Dorado). Classified as a grand design spiral, NGC 1566's shows two prominent and graceful spiral arms that are traced by bright blue star clusters and dark cosmic dust lanes. NGC 1566's flaring center makes the spiral one of the closest and brightest Seyfert galaxies (galaxies with quasar like properties), likely housing a central supermassive black hole.
