Here is a short little guide to show you how to set up a quick system where you place a permeable twine deep into the soil near your plants, then coil it into a bottle of water next to it.  This will creat a wicking effect that should keep  a plant watered for a while (at least a few weeks).  

I would like to note that I only promote using things like this when you don't have time for longer-term solutions such as building your soil with heavy mulching, and/ or creating large self watering pots, Swales and Hugelcultures.
