2. What’s the most disturbing movie you’ve ever watched?
Ha! Again, because I'm so good at burying trauma, I can't remember which film I found most disturbing. Happiness by Todd Solondz can hold its place for now. The tone of that movie is just the most jarring thing, particularly during the Dylan Baker sections, which, for the subject matter alone, are already disturbing. It’s the appearance of sunniness, crispy and curdled at the edges, juxtaposed with awful things.
8. Which book would you like to see adapted into a film?
Okay, while there is a film version out there of this which is terrrrrrible--I really want to see a '70s-set, super stylized version of The Westing Game actually shot on Lake Michigan, with a cast of amazing oddballs, all snowed in at a mostly-vacant coop. Taika Waititi would direct and the end results would be magical, scary, funny and a little bittersweet.
10. Who is your favorite movie director?
Man, I have so many. Michael Powell, Mary Harron, Akira Kurosawa, Jane Campion, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Maren Ade, Edgar Wright, Orson Welles, Billy Wilder, Alfonso Cuaron, Pedro Almodovar, Lynne Ramsay and on and on. I’m a sucker for a strong point of view combined with real style.

Some A++ choices there and particular hearts-eyes for putting two of my favourites - I Know Where I’m Going! and In the Mood for Love.
I Know Where I’m Going! is perfect. PERFECT. It’s romantic, silly, a little odd (those tartan hills, the colonel, Petula Clark) but also adult. Joan and Torquil have polite conversations about everyday things while repeatedly framed in tight, intimate shots. Their body language--ugh, him leaning into her space and her not backing away. The way Torquil looks at Joan like there is no question. Joan’s desperation when she realizes everything she’s ever worked for could be lost. God, they’re both so stupid and I love them. Easily a contender for #1 fave film.
In The Mood for Love peddles a different type of longing and while I want to scream at the credits every time, I always return to it. Happy to spend time in its sad, swooning embrace.

Ravi is everybody's favourite and I already ship him with Liv, although I don't think we'll get that, not for a while at least. Major does get quite a bit more interesting later in the season though!
See, ‘not for a while’, that’s what I though when i mainlined VMars s1 (unspoiled), and about the halfway point i was like ‘i’m trash but i’m betting on Logan in maybe a few seasons from now, call me crazy’ AND LO, LIKE 2 EPISODES LATER. So, Rob Thomas and me don’t have what I’d call trust re: expected timelines. (Major is approximating a sexy lamp at this point, but not sexy - we’ll see)

RIGHT?! RAVI!!!!!!!!! (we are so behind so I don't know where this show is going, but I can't imagine that she'll stick with a dude whose name is literally Major Lilywhite. That name is not an accident).
THE PUN NAMES ARE THE BEST. LIV MOORE? STOOOP. (why would anyone stick with almost anyone when Ravi Chakrabarti is sashaying around in the background??)
