Happy Wonder Woman Day!
We don't talk about Kangas enough. Wonder Woman's Island just having domesticated kangaroos is so bizarre and yet so oddly sweet. I don't think we ever get a good explanation for why themyscira has kangas, but I have a theory. Marston liked his symbolism, hence all his bondage themes (it was almost definitely his fetish but it still counts as symbolism, since it represents more than just pure fetishism). And if I think I know Marston (and if i try to imagine myself in his shoes), i'd say kangaroos seem like a very "feminine" animal. Mostly because of their association with carrying around their kids in the pouch. It can be overanalyzed and read into as a parental thing, and parental would equal maternal to most people in 1940s america, I would assume.
And yes, that is all just extrapolation based on me overthinking things, but I think I may be onto something. At the very least, I have discovered a weird new way to read into animals and gender stereotypes. So... that's not something I expected to be admitting tonight, but here we are. Anyways, we should talk about Kangas more. Not just in this weird context, but just because the whole idea of them is fascinating to me. And we should acknowledge Wonder Woman's closest kanga partner far more often: jumpa.
Trial of the Amazons wasn't perfect but it felt like everyone involved genuinely loved Wonder Woman and her mythos. I'm so glad they brought back Jumpa

Imagine how incredible this scene would’ve been if it was comic accurate and the Amazons were riding kangaroos.
Wonder Woman and Amazons Riding Kangas by Alex García
Damian once met Jumpa the kangaroo. It was one of the best moments of his life. Diana sent Bruce a video. Everytime he watches it, he still cracks a smile.
