Ava has to be one of the strongest characters in the series.

Ava just lost,,,,, so much potential. If they kept her alive, she would've been a good ally to have and could do the thing Clem does at the end. I'm sad they killed her, especially like THAT
ANF is just whole lot of wasted potential and Ava’s a pretty big part of that. She’s likable, she’s badass, and I love her. If she stuck around, she could’ve knocked some sense into David when he goes all “Let’s go home! We can be a family again! Wait, Javi that’s muh wife! Where’s my wrench-”
Like, she knocked Tripp on his ass, so there isn’t a doubt in my brain that she could destroy David if she needed to. She’d always have his back and everything, but I think even she’d go against him when David starts beating Javi with a wrench.
But no, that’s too logical, I guess. We gotta have a climax and a final big choice. So hit Ava with a walker and send her flying. Sigh.

Like up to that point, we have the Carley vs Doug and Jane vs Kenny choice. You can only save one of them and no matter what you do, one of them will die. You go into it knowing you have the power to pick which one you want to save.
Listen, ANF is a mess. It had a lot of wasted potential and Joan is one of the most forgettable antagonists in this series.... that being said, that bullshit she pulled is amazing from a storytelling standpoint.
“Okay, we’re doing this again! You can either say Ava or Tripp! Whoever you don’t pick will die!”
And you’re like “Oh, yeah yeah, this again.”
So you pick and you think everything will be fine and dandy.
Until Joan orders the one you picked to be executed. Now not only did the one you wanted to save dead, but the one you were gonna let die is alive and bitter towards you. Nice.
ANF got a lot wrong but boy, was that not one of those things.

Listen, I don’t have anything against Tripp. I like Tripp, he’s fine.
But Tripp is a beast of a man, and seeing little Ava not even hesitate in knocking him on his ass like it’s nothing is one of my favorite things in ANF. It’s sooo good.
The more I think about it the more I hate the way Ava was killed. Like... she's a soldier!! They could've pushed the car away first and used logic!! But NO, she had to die so David could get over her death 2 seconds later.
That fucking death scene still makes me laugh.
But not in a funny haha way.

It’s such bullshit though! Like, at least with Tripp, there’s an actual believability to his death. Well, not entirely, but WAAAY more than Ava’s. It’s still dumb but ya get me.
The only reason that nonsense happened was to increase the death count and give David those 5 seconds of “AVA! OH GOD AVA NO!!” before the “....She was a great soldier. Let’s go.”

In my mind, Ava is a hard-core lesbian. She was a skater girl in her teens and was always seen as "one of the guys." She has been a badass since before the outbreak and is one of the people that seems like they were made for the apocalypse. While she has a lot of qualities that would make her a good leader, she prefers to be the right-hand, so she doesn't have to make the tough decisions but can still lend her ideas and support.
Nice, I’ve always seen her as a lesbian, too, and I agree that she has all the qualities of a leader but prefers to be a right-hand. She’s a military gal from a military family and a pure badass and I love her.
