Björk Guðmundsdóttir;( born 21 November 1965) is a singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, and DJ. For just over 40 years in her career, she has developed an eclectic and original musical style that draws on a range of influences and genres of music. She started as a member of the band The Sugarcubes after the band split she started a solo career. Björk was well received and found much success with her “quirky” music, videos and fashion. I knew who Björk was throughout the ‘90s in high school. I liked her array of visually stimulating music videos music and found her music interesting. In 2004, my friend was more familiar with her music and gave me a solid rundown of Björk’s career so I could be more familiar with her music. I eventually did my own work. Björk has received a number of Grammys for her work in music. She has composed music for films and works in visual arts and fashion. Björk is an eclectic and eccentric artist that is always taking things in a new direction.

Frank Vincent Zappa (December 21, 1940 – December 4) was a musician, composer, activist, and filmmaker the Baltimore native is best known for his experimental music and satire of American culture Zappa had a career that spanned more than 30 years. He composed rock, pop, jazz, jazz fusion, and many other genres. He produced almost all of the 60-plus albums that he released with his band the Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist. Zappa was a self-taught musician and had a diverse musical taste which allowed him to create abstract music. He is often referred to as the “ godfather” of comedy rock because of his humorous songwriting and often dealt with political issues. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and posthumously received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1978, he performed and hosted SNL and was uncomfortable and “out of his element” He constantly broke the 4th wall and made notes that were reading from queue cards he was subsequently banned from SNL after that episode. Zappa solo or with The Mothers of Invention is fun to have in the background at a party or when want to listen to Zappa Later in his career, he battled PMRC over censorship Zappa is ranked on various “ Greatest Guitarist” lists. He also composed music for films as well as made a few films. Zappa’s far-out sounds and work ethic still influences artists today.
