8/21 draft deck
Hoooooooly crap.
So, this is the second or third time I’ve drafted a deck with the Nameless God of Crawling Things, but this is over the top. So much Deathtouch, so much support, and I know this could be felt out a little more but I’m just elated with how much control this deck can have even with an aggressive land count. 3x Cruel Edict in the main and one more in the side, double Aggressive Instinct, plus the addition of the amazing Unworthy Usurper makes this deck feel a little crazy.
I’m happy with black removal now for sure, although I worry a little with the huge amount of deathtouch. GRN draft with “assassin tribal” was a pain in the butt as-is. Still, there are things that came together that I never would have expected. 2x Tyrant’s Mark // Child of the Nameless God? Good lord.
If you haven’t seen Avarelle, take a look at this deck and give comments to @imakethecard for his work. What looks good? What’s worrisome?

Did a draft with my friend, knowing nothing about the custom set. First takeaway? Marriage seems busted to me- pair creatures up and get bonuses for nothing, not much removal that i saw outside of red so i took everything I could get. Adventures, cool as heck. Wizard synergy, always fun. Old bones for fixing, woo. Couple potential removal cards that doubled as fixers too which i thought was neat. Makes you think whether or not to keep removal in your opening hand or grab a land you need.

Croissant wanted to stop by their mother's place on the way back to Waterdeep. It'd been a while.

Avarelle: Ouphe Hyperaggro
~~~
So with two Ugly Ducklings (which transform into Ouphe lords), King of Beasts, and a Faerie Godmother to tutor Harmonious Kingdom, I think that having a creature-heavy aggro deck is pretty darn awesome.
My usual quibbles are here, as usual. Disproportionate Punishment was one of if not the only white removal card I say. Happily Ever After is a Pacifism effect, but it’s just not good enough. I only saw one green fight card, and it wasn’t good enough to justify taking. Giant Killers can only do so much.
I feel that this set asks a lot of questions but as is doesn’t provide a whole lot of answers. Red and black removal is decent, but the combat tricks and cantrips are few and far between. Actually, that’s something I’m noticing now - there aren’t too many of either as far as I can tell? But regardless, this deck seems good enough to get through that - I hope.
HERE is a link to the full deck. List under the cut.
Things I liked: There felt like a decent amount of synergy between Lords and Wizards here. I thoroughly enjoyed cards like Arrogant Prince, which transforms when tapping an untapped Wizard. Lady of the Lake X2 plus three equipment? Lovely for thinning out a deck. Sixteen lands feels fine for this deck, honestly.
Things I didn’t like: Removal was HARD to find. It still feels like there are a lot of creatures in this set compared to an “average” set. Combat tricks are fine, but in black, there don’t seem to be much, and there still doesn’t appear to be much major removal. Maybe it’s because I keep going black. But aside from a couple red burn cards, I didn’t actually see that much. I still think this deck is okay, but with a lot of offence, the decisions aren’t as strong in my opinion. But I’ve whined about that a lot already.
RB sacrifice steal? I like the way this deck plays in theory. Eggbringer Bunny is a surprisingly useful card, to fetch up a Blight Egg if needed or Egg Man maybe. Four sac outlets at higher rarity are pretty awesome. Plenty to steal, plenty to damage, some actual removal (although still mostly contextual and widespread) and a half-decent control curve.
I’ve been wondering why cycling is in this set. I understand how it works in general, but with the fullness of the set already with major tribal themes and several cards whose power is cut to fulfill the context of their shell, I don’t know if cycling has a place. I’d rather have some manner of fixing, or simply better cards instead.
