Advanced Visual Argument

this project will continue to revolve around my technology theme. The topic will be of cyber bullying, and how it has taken both a physical and emotional effect on almost anyone who surfs the internet and takes part in social media. My AVA will be group project with Victoria Avila.

The two topic preferences will be either the film documentary, or the research poster. We feel that the best way to convey our message clearly is through the presentation of a lot of facts and information. 

the purpose of this AVA project will be to spread awareness and shine light on the issue, and provide some solutions that we feel can help end it entirely. Cyber bullying has many cases of leading to self abuse, and even suicide, and through our choice of presentation we want to inform the audience on what is a very real issue in our society. The audience, besides out classmates, will be anyone from ages 10-20, because that is when the majority of cyber bullying takes place.

Solution: One solution that we have to this issue is to collaborate with social media platforms, and encourage them to use signs and banners to deter cyber bullying. Labels like “Think before you act” etc, will discourage the bully from saying harmful things. With that and with bringing awareness to the community problem, it will help stop cyber bullying in the future!

Ava topic proposal

This week we are working on the Advanced Visual Argument assignment. For my project I am leaning more toward a film or a research poster. In my Lit Review I was discussing business and how entrepreneurs use social media. I figured since I am on the topic of social media usage I developed a question that I could has for my Ava Topic. Cyber Bullying: Should Parents monitor their child’s social media usage to prevent cyber bullying? This does not have to do with business but it is a serious topic that poses many questions and personally my family members have fell victim to cyber bullying.

Cyber bullying is a problem because kids tend to have more guts behind a screen than they would in person and this causes them to tell other kids mean things. What they don't realize is not everyone can handle those hurtful words and they might hurt themselves or be effected by bullying the rest of their lives. One way to prevent this is by monitoring your child's technology usage. It's always good to make sure your child is safe and to have these discussions with them so they understand that sometimes people in this world can be cruel. I want to use this topic to discuss solutions to cyber bullying and how it can be handle and prevented.

REFLECTION:AVA

This was the most recent major assignment turned in, and it was the most fun for me! I decided to work alone on this assignment even though it could have been a project because I felt like I would of been stronger in what I was talking about since I was going through it all semester long. I decided to make the topic the struggles elementary kids have with state testing and how we as tutors parents and or teachers can help the kids pass the tests. elementary kids get tested starting in third grade all the way till senior year in high school. so I put together a poster board with programs and tips that everyone can use to help the students pass.

( I picked this one to show that the tests never end in school, we cant get rid of but we can at least help others to pass them)

I decided to do a poster board because I had the vision of making it look like a bulletin board like the teachers use in school classrooms. it didn't quite look like it in the pdf because I didn't have the backgrounds but the poster board it self came out really nice in my opinion. I interviewed five different people a teacher, tutor, substitute and two students in the programs I mentioned.

I learned a lot in this assignment. I learned lot about some really cool programs that help kids and I even made little business cards to hand out to the class for them to see and maybe take it home to help someone they know is struggling. I used a lot of the information learned throughout the semester I used a lot of the tips and helpful strategies the chapters told me like how to make a clear and understandable question and how to get clear useful information. what I could of probably done a little better could of been my pdf I could find the background I was really using but I could of tried a little harder to make it look a little better.

AVA outline

The AVA project is done by me, myself and I. For this project I am sticking to the teaching and students topic, as some of y’all know. It’s going to touch base on the struggles the elementary students have with preparation for the EOC, STAR. I will touch base on how the teachers have to stick to the Common Core to prepare for these state testing. Within this poster I will state a couple different programs and different teaching strategies the tutors and teachers can do to better the learning for the kids. My audience will be for the teachers, tutors and parents.  My poster will be breaking down into different parts. For example; the problem, solutions, references, visuals. My visuals will be a chart, which will show the statics of the students and how the state testing has gotten harder and how these programs can help the kids better their scores. For my references I will have a couple of the same one of my lit review but I will add in some more for the programs. And I will also interview 3rd, 4th, 5th grade teachers from an elementary school here in El Paso. This all combined will give my poster more creditability. 

( For some reason my mac does not want to focus on the outline but this is a basic outline of my poster) the interviews are missing because they will happen this week on Thursday and Friday and i am missing some parts to it. i decided to post this pic so y'all can see what is basically is going to be.

AVA Topic

My topic doesn’t lend its self too well in my opinion for advocacy so I am open to work with somebody else.

My visual argument would be about the environmental damage created by mining for lithium. Lithium is the most important element need to create the rechargeable batteries in our cellphones, laptops, and hybrid cars. I would create a documentary showing the lithium mines, presenting research with data about how lithium can be recycled and alternatives to it, and interviewing people asking them if they know where the lithium in their devices comes from.

An other topic I would like to try but I know is probably going to be denied because it is over done and not related to my lit review topic is the side of gun ownership that the media fails to recognize. I would conduct interviews with gun owners asking them about their background and why the second amendment is important to them. I recently started participating in action shooting competitions and would bring in footage of either competing or practicing for an event. My advocacy for this topic would be bringing a willing person who is either afraid of firearms or who has never shot one before to come out and try it as well as informing people who are not part of the gun community that people who own firearms are some of the nicest and most law aiding people out there.

AVA TOPIC PROPOSAL

My AVA topic will be presented as a website. Topic/focus question: Should mitochondrial replacement therapy be allowed in the U.S? Audience: U.S citizens (adults) Purpose: it's not about being ethically right or wrong its about giving a child a chance to live. Position/Advocacy: thousands of children are born with mitochondrial disorders every year and rarely get to live passed their ealry childhood. This can easily change by convincing the FDA to allow mitochondrial replacement therapy in the U.S Solution: starting a petition, or protesting to allow mitochondrial replacement therapy
