“Hey. Hey, hey,” soothes Tony, turning toward you. He doesn’t reach for you, but given the way his voice softens and his fingers twitch, you think he might want to. “Look, I’m angry. I could throw the pair of them off the top of this Tower and not think twice. But you—” “Five minutes ago, you’d have thrown me too,” you say. “Yeah, I would’ve. But I probably would have caught you before you hit the ground, so.” He exhales. “You pissed me off, kiddo. And I’m still pissed, and I’ll probably still be pissed for a while. I don’t let shit like that go easy, you know that. But that doesn’t mean I have to be an asshole to you about it.” He glances at your now-empty desk. “Maybe for the tech, though.” You give him a little, watery smile. “I could have helped you with all this,” he continues, waving his hand around. “You know that, right? We’d all help you, you’re one of us. You don’t have to do all this by yourself.”
