Hey! (I really love your blog by the way you are amazing) So basically I'm confused about the Asylum conventions, do you think you could help me out??? I get that you buy a ticket (or an upgraded ticket if you want one) and then you go to the convention and get registered, and queue- do you have to que for long and is after that when you buy photo ops and autograph sessions or do you do that before you go? And how much is each photo op and autograph?(Continued)
Hello! Thank you so much, sorry I couldn’t get back to you sooner! Well it depends what group you’re in, and the group you’re in depends on when you buy the ticket. Say if you bought one when they were first being sold, then you would probably be in group A-D, or what I did for A10 is buy a ticket a couple of months before the actual con, and I was in group Z. Each group has a different registration time, but they’ll post that on the site nearer the time so you know when to be there for. There is a LOT of queuing, so be warned. For me, it took about 2 hours to get registered. Then I went right to get the photo ops and autographs, I had to queue for about 3 hours for that.
When you do get registered, you get a little pack with a schedule and other things in, you also get an autograph card which has all of the non sponsored guests on, so Misha, Ty, Mark, Amanda and Jim so far, all of those autographs you will get for free. But they also have other guests who are sponsored, and when they are announced it’ll say that they are sponsored. If you want autographs from them then you have to buy them, they’ll usually be around £15 - £25 depending on the guest.
Now with photo ops, you have to buy the ones you want. You will queue up for ops and autographs at the same time, there will be a member of staff at a desk and they write down the things you want on a blank ticket, then you pay and they give you the tickets. Then you present them to another member of staff when you go to said photo op or autograph session. Again photo op prices can vary depending on the guests, I think at A10 for Misha it was £50 and people like Matt it was either £25 - £30.
Well, if you are under 18 and staying at the Hilton then you are considered a child. I’m only gonna be 17 at A12, and I’m staying there. So what I’ve done is got my mum to book it, and she’s gonna check in and pay for it, then leave me for the weekend (with my sister of course) and then check out when it’s time! So as long as you have someone of age booking or checking in at least then I think you’ll be fine. I’m not too sure on that, this will be the first time I’m staying there!
Well, when I went to A10 I bought £200 with me, and spent £140 on photo ops and autographs alone! And I was even given more otherwise I wouldn’t have enough! So I would bring as much as you can with you. Also, there’s a room where you can buy a ton of cool merchandise stuff like shirts, bracelets, pictures, and other fandom stuff! It’s also best to have some money to buy pictures of the guests that you’re getting autographs from, or if you have you’re own pictures or something else you want signing (like a boxset cover) then that’s fine too!
Right, at the con there will be a hell of a load of things going on at the same time. And it will be impossible to do everything and go everywhere, there are panels, the photo ops and autograph sessions, parties, and you’re gonna need time to eat and everything. Seriously, I forgot to eat on the Saturday because I was too busy trying to do everything! There will be parts of panels you miss because you’re group will be called for your turn on photos or autographs, so the best thing to do is when the schedule comes out on the site, plan what panels you want to go to. And I wouldn’t worry if a panel you want to go to might clash with a session, there will be more than one chance to get your autographs and photos.
I hope that’s helps! And no worries! I’ve publicly posted this just to help anyone else who might be confused, and hopefully this will shed some light on it all. And if I need correcting on info then tell me! Also, if anybody has anything to add that might help, like hotels and everything, then feel free to contact me or this lovely lady who asked this!
