The Abbey of Averbode in Flemish-Brabant, Belgium, was founded in 1134 on initiative of Arnold II, Count of Loon. The church was built between 1664 and 1672 and is a synthesis of Baroque and Gothic, with Renaissance ornament details. It's a nice place to visit, especially in combination with the nearby nature reserve. Puddle Reflection - {English/Engels} Inbetween Demer and Nete (rivers), in the south of the Campina, lies a large nature reserve around the abbey of Averbode. Until 2004, property of the noble family De Merode, now an outstretched area with pines and moorland.{Nederlands/Dutch} Tussen Demer en Nete, in het zuiden van de Kempen, ligt rond de abdij van Averbode een groot natuurgebied. Tot 2004 nog eigendom van de addelijke familie De Merode, nu een uitgestrekt gebied met naaldbossen en open heide.
