The doctor stood there, acting as a gateway that ripped the very life from one man and began to infuse it into the other. The tendrils of sanguine swirled with purpose, passing over Dietrich’s body from long limb to long limb, until they were being fed to his cousin, injured body consuming and drinking up the eerie transference. Just as one body saw its color and life being sapped, Fernand’s was ever the opposite, wounds within and upon his exterior threatening to seal shut before their eyes as hints of a flush once more spread across the man’s flesh.
The spellwork was taking a toll on the doctor, one that he was more than happy to endure on behalf of his family. Crooked fingers began to tremble, and sweat beaded upon his brow, dripping openly down gaunt features before spilling into his beard and down his throat. Evidence of his own pain was clear across his visage, raven brows knit tight with teeth gritting audibly.
The last of the guard's life-force was drained fully as concern knit Tylen's brow at Dietrich's diminishing strength. When the wounds were far less mortal, at least in appearance and the internal hemorrhaging ceased, she spoke.
"Dietrich. Let the girl stitch him. Her mentor was a surgeon. You've... his mind is with us once more."
Nora's teeth grit audibly as she moved past Dietrich to the supplies gathered to look through it with sure hands until she found what she needed. Gauze, thick twine, a pliers, etcetera. In essence, everything that was needed to perform sutures and a few vials of disinfectant and antibiotic. She moved back and in an eerily calm voice, she said, "Did you kill him?"
But.
No response came from Dietrich as the last tendrils of the transfusion dissipated into the air around him, leaving him slumping and barely able to catch himself against the cot holding the questionably living guard. Flaring eyes dulled, as did the source of magic spewing through his shirt. Clinging to the frame of the gurney with what energy remained, he spared one last look towards Fernand after doing everything he could manage. Seeing the woman gather the necessary tools and supplies, he knew his work was done.
Tylen raised to her feet, glancing to Nora as her knees nearly caved. "I have the guard's memories," she answered through a terse clamp of her teeth as her balanced sustained enough to began a slow, cautious stride toward her brother. Nothing could summon from her lips any further as the two depleted sources could finally begin their departure. The woman's glassed over gaze possessed all her remaining strength as she sought to clutch Dietrich's elbow when they finally intersected.
And then they left. Everything from that point was automatic until...
"This fucking blows hot asshole," he, Fernand, rasped, staring at the ceiling.
“Let me finish,” she said, with less anger now. “I need to get out of here and move my kid out of where she is as quick as I can. Just lay down, and... go to your happy place.”
"How old... And bring her here."
She met his daze a moment, something in her expression shifting briefly and just as quickly it was gone. “Four,” she said, softly, shaking her head. “And... that’s all right. I can’t... I can’t bring her here... we’re near her grave.”
Light banter... nothing important... maybe he didn’t notice the look.
Turning away, her brows squished together, a small frown dawning in her lips as she tried to calculate mental math while cleaning up her mess.
“She looks like me, doesn't she." Fuck.
