After their dinner, and agreeing to go on a date, Avery had set the bar higher telling him to surprise her. He spent a lot of time thinking on good ideas, until he finally came up with something ──probably not the best, but he thought it’d be fun to try it out, and hoped Avery would think the same thing. He dressed casual: black jeans and a plaid shirt, spraying some cologne on, before heading to her house to pick her up. Once he arrived to her place, he knocked on the door, taking a deep breath as he waited for her to open, trying to look nervous about the night ahead. ( @averyxjordan )

If he could make this day as unproductive, he would. His mind had been practically occupied by thoughts about the plans for the night. There was no mention of this meeting to his friends at work anyways, Joey was already too nervous to add more pressure to it. And despite Avery’s wishes, he ended up leaving earlier to get changed. It wasn’t date, so there was no need for dressing up, yet he wanted to look presentable for her. His excuse? A tiring day of work; he needed the shower and the change of clothes, along with trimming his beard a bit and maybe the cologne too. He went for casual though, a pair of black jeans, a plaid long-sleeved shirt over a white tee, and sneakers. This wouldn’t give away how much effort he was putting into it, right?

By the time he parked his car at the driveway of Avery’s place, there had only passed a few minutes from seven. He was right on time. Grabbing the bottle of wine he had picked earlier, he closed the car behind him, heading towards the entrace. Smoothening his shirt with his free hand, he took a deep breath before knocking at his ex’s door.

He was practically never around his neighborhood at midday on a weekday, but he had taken a day off to take care of his mom who fell ill. Reading the list of medicines his sister had texted him, Joey wasn’t focusing on the road, so when he turned around the corner, he bumped fully against someone. “Shit! So sorry I didn’t ──” He cut himself off when he saw the person wasn’t a random stranger, but his ex Avery. After all this time, and from all people, he had to see her again this way. He stood in silence for a few brief seconds, perplexed, not really knowing what to say to her. “Are you okay? Did I hurt you or anything?”
