43 | Avexis and Five

The world hadn’t ended and Five needed a new mission. 13 again and adamant that he wasn’t going to attend school he had found himself at a loose end, one he decided to fill with finding the other 36 children born on the 1st October 1989. His training at the commission made it easier to search for them and he’d made a list to work down. He didn’t intend on creating another Umbrella Academy, just wanted to document all the people he could find with their powers and general upbringing. 

Working alphabetically he arrived at the house of a woman named Avexis. He knocked on the door and waited, not wanting to blink in and intrude.

Klaus had had enough. He’d come back to his child hood home, The Umbrella Academy, because he’d heard news that his delightful father had died, he’d turned up and discovered that it was in fact true. However, the constant feeling of not being good enough around his siblings easily swallowed him up and he just had to get out for a while. He stole some ornate metal box from his fathers study without getting caught, leaving that house behind him for a while. He’d go back, but not tonight, nobody would notice anyway.

He easily pawned the box in, getting enough cash for a small selection of pills in a little baggie from his dealer. Perfect. That would last him the night. He hadn’t even turned the corner before he popped two into his mouth, swallowing them quickly.

Furrowing his brow, he swallowed another two, he wanted to completely forget about things and these pills would definitely let him do that. He made his way across town, feelings the pills kicking in, the howling of the ghosts quietening in his mind, but instead of the happy, calm relaxed feeling he usually felt, dizziness and a feeling of light-headedness passed over him. It was dark already, so he slipped into an alleyway, sliding down against a wall. He’d just take a few minutes to have a sit down, he was sure the spinning would stop if he just stopped moving for a moment.

“Oh..” She’s not quite sure how to respond to that right away and realizes that blue eyes have been staring at the way he’s covered in blades. There have to be easily over ten different knives strapped to his body, most of them appearing to be military surplus. It’s a bit peculiar but sparks Avexis’ interested and after only one appreciative glance and curious comment to her new foster, Titus, the short woman finds herself being dragged over to the stranger by the large pit bull. And to make sure that she’d start off a conversation he’d done the most normal and mortifying thing, gone right up to Diego and stuck his nose towards his crotch.

“Well, Titus seems to like them too, I am so sorry! They’re very…well there’s certainly a lot of them. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many blades on one person.”

At this time of the day he had not been expecting to find anybody around. Anybody who cared enough to give him any more than a funny look, anyway. Diego had to stop his jogging to avoid tripping over the impressive dog, brown eyes lifting to meet the blue hues of the beast’s owner. Was he friendly? Anyway, those gigantic teeth were too close to his pants for anybody’s comfort. “...yeah it’s a new.. fashion trend.” he said, even if it’s obviously a lie,

 He offered his hand for the dog to sniff it before he even thinks of touching him, patting his head and scratching behind his ears. He seemed to be very excited to become his friend. Diego couldn’t help the smile that reached his lips at that. “What is he called?” his gear-comfort testing is suddenly put on hold. He could resume that later on.

If her dad still were alive, he’d have certainly died of a brain aneurysm at seeing an animal in his car. He wouldn’t have cared it was injured and extremely thin. Reginald wouldn’t have been swayed by the pitiful noises it made, laying in the backseat as Vanya drove carefully to the nearest animal clinic. The whole, she called back encouragements and promises she wasn’t sure she would be able to keep. Zipping into the first available parking spot, Vanya flung the door to the vet open. “Can I get some help please? I found this dog and he looks very bad. I-I think he got hit or someone did something to him!”

Now out of the eyes of Chantry forces Eron could finally breathe easy as he trudged through the snow-covered path that lead to a shack. Abandoned, for the most part, though he had no interest of going inside. Instead he decided to move farther to the north where wild cattle roamed. Having a not-so-good experience with druffalos days before reminded him to keep his distance - an equally hilarious and embarrassing situation even if he was the sole spectator of his own misfortune.

Moments later he reached his true destination and went down the path to the left that took him to a small dock on the frozen lake. He let out a faint sigh once he dropped down on the rickety wooden structure, feeling some of the weight being lifted off of his shoulders. Here he wasn’t a savior blessed by Andraste or her Herald; he was just someone with a glowing hand who had an incredible run of terrible luck.

His train of thoughts was cut short when he heard a ruckus from behind. It sounded like... rams? It sure as hell didn’t sound like a person. Not enough to raise his suspicions yet, but he couldn’t resist the urge to investigate. Eron rose to his feet, hand hovering over the hilt of his blade. To his pleasant surprise it was indeed a person with bright hair - an elf? - but it wasn't the oddest thing. Rams were gathering around them. They seemed to be unaware of his presence, and the last thing he wanted to do was anger someone for scaring away their game. Cautiously he stepped closer, clearing his throat once he was merely a few feet away. “Uh... is everything alright?”

“ you did what you could. ”

He did what he could. Ragnar didn’t know what to think of that. He was not one to just accept doing what he could.  If he had, perhaps they’d be in a different situation than he was now, but he supposed all he could do really, was just accept it. Fate meant there was only so many things that one could change, after all.  

“And if I could have done more, I suppose I would have. But, I am learning quickly that there is only so much that people are willing to accept that someone does. People will judge, no matter what.”
