Dr. Ratio is invited to Sigonia, a remote planet where the only presence is a base established by the IPC. The circumstances were seeded from roped curiosity and the days following the landing unsettled him in the heat of the Desert.

Getting stabbed is possibly the least exciting thing that would happen after a chance encounter with what might have been the last of an extinct civilization. What’s worse is that the IPC seem unaware of its existence.

One of the headcanons that I have for Riney is that the Avgin were a peacock!hybrid specie. Meaning they had the wings and tail of a peacock and the rest was basically human. And since they were a mostly poor specie and they all died in the genocide (aside from Riney), there isn’t really any records of them having those characteristics (outside of the IPC’s records of course).

The reason Riney doesn’t have his wings/tail anymore is because they were fully amputated when he was captured and enslaved. It was his master’s way of making sure he wouldn’t try to escape by flying away.

So now, he is stuck with three disgustingly disfiguring scars on his back which only serves to participate in reminding him of what he lost.

(and I don’t say that they are disgusting because I have a problem with scars, but because he was given the bare minimum to heal without catching some sort of infection that would kill him so the scars never healed properly)
