I want Aventurine and Sunday to have a kid together. And Sunday is really intense about finding the instrument with which their kid resonates with, because they’re only half-Halovian and it’s going to take A LOT of work to maintain their connection to the Harmony. And if they don’t find it and they loose that connection, then the kid is going to get so sick they might die. And obviously, they don’t want that.
But they can’t find anything. They try just about every single damned instrument in the universe and nothing resonates with the kid. And Aventurine gets an idea.
He doesn’t tell Sunday because it might not work and it might just be a foolish hope, but he tries anyway. He goes to this insanely talented and high-end flute maker.
You see, there used to be a very specific wind instrument that was traditional to the Avgins and Aventurine has never seen one after the genocide, but the kid is half-Avgin so maybe that’s what they need? So, he describes the flute the best he can and, when he gets it, it looks exactly how he remembers it. And it hurts a lot, because he never thought he would ever see one again, but he is also so happy.
Long story short, the kid sees the instrument and immediately picks it up and starts playing. It was as if they had been born with the flute in their hands. And again, Aventurine just can’t breath with how much it hurts. Because he isn’t in his penthouse anymore. He is in the terribly hot desert with the sun boiling them alive and he hears his mother’s laugh and his sister is playing with his hair and by Gaiathra Triclops he’s home.
And maybe that first kid doesn’t have Aventurine’s eyes, but, you know, fair right? Two parents. You only get the eyes of one of them so no big deal. But then they have another kid. And baby number two doesn’t have his eyes either and, okay, maybe that one hurts a little more? He knows, realistically, his eyes are not hereditary. They are tied to the Goddess. But still, he wishes one of his kids gets them you know?
And when the third is born, it’s a really dark night. There is a storm raging outside like you’ve never seen before. The sky is practically falling on your head and the kid couldn’t possibly have chosen a worst time to come into the world, but damn there they are.
And the kid is born and they open their eyes and Aventurine is staring into his own eyes. And the storm outside ressembles the one his parents used to talk about. The one that happened the night he was born. And this kid wasn’t born on his birthday, but he doesn’t actually know when was his birthday. He’s the last remaining and his people talked about their history, they didn’t write it down. So everything is gone and maybe he got the date wrong?
Basically, I want Aventurine to be forced to face everything he lost and never allowed himself to mourn through his kids, just like Sunday forced him to make amends with the kid that was never allowed to live. I want Aventurine to relearn the importance of Kakavasha and to embrace the culture he’s been running from ever since he made his own freedom.
