Fic rec! 25K Sheith fic
Summary: The last thing Takashi Shirogane, captain of the Atlas, needs is a meddling watchdog from the Garrison. Especially since his sentient ship is determined to do her own meddling when it comes to her captain and his personal life. If only she wouldn't do it in the middle of a crisis.
Comments: There is so much to love about this fic, and I’m impressed the author fit so much in what’s essentially 1/4 of a novel. There’s the Garrison’s increasing pushiness in wanting full control over the Atlas, even as she’s learning and the coalition is trying to get Earth to understand sentient AI’s have personhood. There’s Atlas meddling into Shiro and Keith’s relationships, there’s Keith being a damsel (I say because while he does fight back, ultimately he’s rescued three times in what feels like two days), and a fantastic four-way bond that blooms between Keith, Black, Shiro, and Atlas. It never felt right to me what happened between Black and Shiro, so this was a nice way to have him keep both ships. Though I now do have to wonder - is Black just the name of the lionship or also the sentience that inhabits it?
