oh btw. genuine recs we're not even really saltposting here.
if you want to see an Avid who is fully intentionally downplaying his own capacity to cause harm to others and is borderline maliciously ignoring this fact and/or doubling down on being correct to the point of causing even further harm, go watch Season 1 of Skyblock Kingdoms
if you want to see an Avid that by all measures just seems to be predisposed to madness, has something generally unidentifiably wrong with him, and starts spiraling at an alarmingly fast pace for next to no reason, go watch 100 Days In A Minecraft Nightmare
if you want to see an Avid that, despite his best attempts, is a bit of a wet cat hopelessly caught in the grasp of forces beyond his capacity to meaningfully resist, go watch Avid Adventures
if you want to see an Avid that is half wet cat and half catty and petulant jerk, and also want to experience a tragedy coming from a million miles away (and you don't mind watching VODs), go watch the Limbo AU streams
if you want to watch an Avid [that one tweet voice] kill himself in front of everyone to permanently alter the trajectory of their lives, go watch his POV of Gilded SMP, i will not elaborate on what i meant by this
aka: SO YOU'RE NEW HERE AND WANT TO KNOW WHY EVERYONE IS FREAKING OUT ABOUT THE VOICE CHANGER
first off, disclaimer: yes, Avid has used this voice changer before; no, we don't know for sure it's the same character. however last time we heard this voice changer and said "it's probably a different character" we were dead wrong. so it's relevant anyway.
(EDIT: this time it actually isn't Olm! but you do get to learn why people are/were freaking out, so i'd still suggest reading if you'd like!)
here's the bullet points, very oversimplified. and yes it's three Discord messages long, and under a cut, yes this is still the short version, yes we are one creature and may have made some mistakes by accident so take all this with several grains of salt.
*ADDITIONAL EDIT: it's not Olm. thank goodness. enjoy the lore recap though :3
100 Days In A Minecraft Nightmare:
Avid is the kinda-protector kinda-new-guy in a town called New Salem. two of the main mods here are Manic and Sanguine; Avid begins losing his mind after a beloved iron golem dies and pledges his soul to the Demon of Darkness on a whim.
after Avid gets further into Manic and starts to use corpseplants, Olm tricks Avid into entering the Nether by speaking to him through the plants, then traps him in Incendium (Nether-but-worse).
Avid calls them the Nameless King and believes them when they tell him the only way to end the repeated blood moons plaguing the world is to kill his former patron. they also warn him that doing so may come at the cost of never being able to return home.
they are lying about this. Avid gets stuck in the dimension Limbo, yes. but they sent Avid to Limbo because they wanted to. we don't even know if it fixed the blood moons at all.
Skyblock Kingdoms:
Olm appears to Avid after he's spent a thousand years in Limbo and convinces him to hand over part of his soul, which they will then send to a "land of pure Void" so that part of him technically escapes. Avid takes the deal and gets a soul chunk violently ripped out of his body; his main body stays in Limbo and becomes a monochrome shade.
oh also Avid falls into the Void almost immediately and Olm decides to turn him into a monkey as punishment. they do it to Doovid too but disguise themself as Sun Tzu for some reason?
while in SBK, Avid works under Olm's order to prevent people from falling into the Void, which in turn upsets the natural balance of the world and nearly leads to several people falling through the Void into Limbo. why does Olm want to starve the Void? lol. lmao
it was probably Olm's idea to kidnap server members and make OSSHA-compliant clones of them. didn't stop Avid from following through with both intense fervor and even glee, though.
Marm, the server's local void witch, manages to get into Limbo and find out about what's happened to Avid. with the help of Leon, Penguin That Flirted With Olm Once, she convinces Olm to free the Limbo shade of Avid. Olm agrees, but transfers the Enderman curse Leon is suffering from to Avid while sending him to another world.
Olm also possesses server member Vintage, pushing Rue (the OSSHA clone of Ruby) into the Void and engineering their own freedom from Limbo by tricking Viking into performing a ritual that "exorcises the Void".
Avid Adventures/the Shrouded Isles:
they're THEEEEE big bad of this series, both in the adventure map's lore and in the actual text of the series.
Avid, who has zero memory of his past, is making an adventure map! also he's an enderman, which for some reason is "cured" when he runs through his own Rosewood dungeon and cleanses the curse on it!
Olm becomes increasingly more active throughout the course of this series and alongside the map; in the lore of the Shrouded Isles, they tricked an ancient civilization into bringing about the apocalypse by building a portal to Limbo -- while presenting themself as the Old One, an entity that could solve an ongoing energy crisis.
remnants of that civilization, Agolith, still remain; Olm has been sealed away and escaped multiple times. at one point they possessed a mage called Eromourn and convinced him to go on a rampage to "restore the balance of magic"; in another age, they trick a dwarf into excavating their tomb and freeing them (and then immediately gloat about it and twist everyone involved in the excavation into becoming various creatures).
Olm ALSO messes with Avid throughout the course of the series, nudging him into building the Dark Path (a route for the adventure map where you can side with Olm) and beginning to re-corrupt Avid directly. they like making him build architecture gore and forcing him to make bosses. i think they send him to Turbo Hell (the Abyss) at some point also?
SBK1 Avid somehow manages to get onto Avid Adventures around the same time Adventures Avid is packing up to potentially leave for Misadventures. unfortunately, Olm seems very aware of the fact that SBKvid is there. Uh Oh.
CONCLUSION:
we do not trust that voice changer and neither should you
Hello! I saw you mention that you have been a fan of avid for a while and was wondering what stuff of his you'd recommend outside of vampires? I really like his character in vampires and I wanna give his other content a go.
AVID ADVENTURES AVID ADVENTURES AVID ADVENTURES
we made a post a while ago going over this same thing but: if you want Sheer Lore, you're looking for Season 1 of Skyblock Kingdoms, and if you want to see just how damn good this man is at worldbuilding (and command blocks. and, yes, even building, Avid don't @ us you were always damn good at it) you'll want to go for Avid Adventures. we genuinely think the Shrouded Isles is a fantastic setting with a lot of really interesting depth to it, and the series itself is just... more people need to be nerds about the lore for it. half its fanbase has been very Do More Command Blocks We Don't Care About Storytelling towards not only the series but all of Avid's videos for a while, and that's a crying shame. balance must be restored.
also i guess while we're being biased about our picks, special shoutout to this video from his fourth "community challenge" based around Avid Adventures. why is this one biased? uh well. Nevertime. has some dialogue/prose written by us. and a large portion of the map is made by our good friend. so that was fun.
(also it's a great example of the same more cinematic editing you get in parts of Vampires! he namechecked it directly on a stream a bit ago!)
avidswap au. put sbk1 avid circa ossha on vampires smp, vampires avid on avid adventures, misadventures avid in sbk1, nightmares avid in sbk2, sbk2 avid in misadventures. please hold this vision in your heart before olm smashes it to bits with their bitchass hands
i'd like to start watching avid, is there a particular series of his i should start with?
i think most people would tell you Skyblock Kingdoms Season 1 is a good place to start -- really good blend of storytelling and shenanigans, some classic unhinged behavior, it's the one with the 3min long fully animated lore sequence in the middle of an episode called Banana For Scale. there's also his short-run 3 part series 100 Days In A Minecraft Nightmare (1, 2, 3), which has a really good mix to it of Wet Cat and Unhinged Behavior.
regrettably though (and i say regrettably because a lot of people are really annoying about wanting avid to do Only This Series and ignore a lot of the really fun parts of it in the process), my personal favorite remains Avid Adventures. it's got what i consider to be the quintessential years-long mcyt lore ramp-up in that it starts as truly just a command block series and gradually develops into some really interesting storytelling and worldbuilding until it's half programming showcase and half full-blown cinematic series. and i think that's awesome.
