No offense to Hazel or anything, but did Rick really expect me to believe that CHB would be totally chill with a girl with golden eyes? Like, I’m sure once they got used to her, they thought she was great and loved her, but I know that the first time they saw her eyes, every last camper who fought in the Battle of Manhattan drew their weapons because they were legitimately worried she was Kronos come again. Percy and Annabeth had to explain, that no, the Fates were just cruel enough to give her Kronos’s eyes, but she’s a friend and an ally (Annabeth should’ve freaked when she saw her eyes, and during the eidolon thing, but that’s a whole different rant)
For real! I’ve said it before but people from camp should’ve recoiled from her! Annabeth should’ve met her and stepped back, hand on her dagger, the dagger that killed those eyes once before-
Honestly what was the point in giving her gold eyes if not to have conflict?? I want the conflict! So badly! Give me the drama! The way that the campers who fought, bled, died in the war step away from Hazel. The way that Hazel is feared not for her parent but for her eyes. The way that she manipulates the mist making hearts stop as they remember the mist that coated a city and locked them in, locked them out of Olympus when their leaders fought for their lives.
Step forward to defend the new campers who don’t know, who didn’t love and lose and lose some more, step back and reach for a weapon, the gold eyes that killed your friends, that stole life and limb from them all, are before you once more.
Why why why did Rick just have them be there?? No tension? No fear? No “Kronos is gone, he’s dead, but maybe not, maybe as he passed through the underworld he found a girl of gold eyes to hide in-”
Why not the pain? The fear? The angst and pain and the aching loss of the war? Why didn’t we get to see that reflected in Hazel’s eyes?
