Happy WBW! Wanna tell me more about magic in your wip? What abilities do the characters have?

Funny you ask this right at the moment I'm thinking of adding big changes to the magic system to spice things up 🤣.

I had the magic system figured out, with elemental magic that can be addressed scientifically or artistically, blood magic (that doesn't even come up much as sideeffect of abonding Sky of Shards storyline and characters), wild magic, Dragonknight Art, and Soulfire that is addressed through movement and martial arts. And mind magic, the type my MC has that is giving me the most trouble right now.

My thoughts on the magic:

I'm thinking of soulfire magic (visible energetical manifestation of the soul) to be either about focus on emotions or on balance of emotions.

What if soulfire magic also had a shadow version with wallowing in negative emotions like anger and sadness?

What if soulfire magic also allowed something like a werewolf transformation? Shapeshifting is well established in universe by Hal, who can shapeshift into anything, which is an extreme example (since he is a sort of a god), but what if soulfire users had this option? And that would give me all the fun sideeffects of werewolves and dragons mingling, like power hierarchies, bloodlust being a normal thing, problems with touch, fighting for control...might be the werewolf book I'm reading right now talking though XD which would mean this idea will lose its charm when I'm finished with the series. What to do? XD

Dragonknight Art is a secret new art that I have been keeping off tumblr for spoilters, but by keeping it from the story for so long, I'm losing it's best dark effects, which is a shame. Maybe I should bring it up sooner or transfer the effects to another type.

What if Dragonknight art allowed for a shortcut to elemental magic, that normally takes about 20 years to master? Since none of the main cast learned this magic, they would need another 20 years to use it properly, but what if there was an elemental fusion ritual, that could speed up the process? The sideeffects being that you become one with the element, and whenever you use it, your body turns back into it? Dissolving into air, bursting into flames and overheating, being called to any water surface and coming undone in it, trouble with staying tangible at all...

Why is mind magic so hard? I wanted a metaphorical magic to show how daydreaming can be a big part of someone's life. Mind magic as it is, a projection of thoughts and illusions and nice dreams, is how I'm feeling a lot in real world right now. Like power of the mind is great, but underappreciated and not very physically powerful or useful in everyday situations. Which is frustrating and not helping. I'm yearning for a power fantasy, with an MC that's an expert and a dangerous force to be reckoned with, with no doubt about her ability being useful or powerful, like mind magic is. It's funny how the accurate representation of actual feelings can get annoying and create the desire to write about the opposite to compensate.

This is not very coherent, but rather helpful to put this all into words. Thank you for the perfect question at the perfect time!

Another sleepless night, another FoA picrew: Avra, this time. Originally thought up in response to this fantastic ask, I've grown quite attached to them and their chaotic energy.

Here they are taking a break from weapons training with Hylonome, a pastime they adore above all others, much to their mother's eternal chagrin.
