Avro Canada C102 Jetliner, a prototype turbojet-powered airliner developed in Canada.

Significance: It was the second jet airliner to fly in the world (after the British de Havilland Comet) and the first to fly in North America.

Performance: The aircraft was designed for medium-range routes and was powered by four Rolls-Royce Derwent engines.

History: Although it showed strong performance and interest from airline tycoon Howard Hughes, the project was cancelled in 1951 to focus resources on military aircraft development.

Once upon a time, Canada held Air Superiority over the entire world.

Then the dumbass prime minister at the time and US meddling fucked over our aerospace industry.

Avro was the 3rd largest company in the country. When it ended up closing, thousands of GENIUS Canadian engineers left the country for jobs in the US and UK. A lot of the aerospace and space achievements accomplished by these countries in the years to come, had these Canadian engineers there making the impossible possible.

The Avro story is like the biggest collective anger we have. Everyone treats Canada like a joke, but man, if Avro never got fucked over we’d be an even bigger world leader, maybe even more so than the states.

Don’t get me wrong though, I’m happy that Canada ISN’T the top dog in world economics. People in the top positions always end up becoming bullies. Besides, some countries are just better at others at being bullies.
