| Devil’s Trap |
Military life was sure. Everything was controlled and mechanical. Nothing unexpected was to happen, not on base anyways. But he wasn’t on base. He wasn’t even in the military anymore. According to the papers, he wasn’t even alive anymore. Ever since waking up in the forest, he had been moving around, mind and body on auto-pilot. Everything was a list of what he needed to survive, and everything he did amounted to crossing items off that list. He stole enough money to get himself the cheapest room in a hotel in Incheon. That would have to be enough until he could figure out how to access his bank account without attracting attention.
But money was running out, and Hyunwoo was walking back to the hotel after a long day of looking for a job when he felt unusually warm. Hot, even. He kept walking, puzzled for a few minutes. It’s not until he’s a street away from the hotel that it occurs to him that it might have something to do why he woke up in the forest. Looking around, he was also made very aware that whatever it was that had happened, could not happen in public. He needed to get away from people. So he tore down the street, veering into the hotel, and dashed into the first door he saw. It was unlocked.
Had he not been paying attention, he would’ve kept running and fallen down the steps, but instead, he took them three at a time, basically jumping down to land on his hands and knees. The pain jolted up his limbs, but he could care less. It felt like he had fire burning him alive from the inside. And things felt... wrong. There was a metallic tinge in his mouth as he bit down on his tongue to stop any sounds from escaping. Instead, he found his vision darkening until there was nothing but murky darkness all around him. The pain faded away, as did his consciousness.
His bones lengthened and his skin stretched. Fur covered his body and then there stood in his place, a hound, pitch black with searing red eyes.
