I needed to build a quick mock up of the centre section of the AV unit as am testing out some brand new cabinet hardware from Grass Movement Systems. Am particularly impressed with the cable stay system which is both soft down and soft close. Thanks very much to the guys @grass_uk for supplying these products. Sycamore drawers ready for the glue up. I’ve pre finished the insides with @rubiomonocoat 5% white pigment and drilled holes for securing the false fronts, I have drilled a mix of countersunk and counterbore holes so that I can use both pan head and countersink screws for the adjusters. A throwback to last year and the making of the Basso AV cabinet. Our brief was to design a low and sleek unit with understated detailing but also to have our signature splash of colour. I think we succeeded. At almost three metres in length, we wanted to disrupt the shape and break it up into three smaller pods. This allowed us not only to create interest, but to add our signature coloured elements which act to separate the cabinets. We used @grassmovementsystems Kinvaro soft down and soft up cable stays and their Tiomos hinges. Externally we’ve used graphite dyed oak veneer. Internally is a mix of solid rippled sycamore and veneer. Small repair to some flaky veneer. Sharpened the broken edges with a scalpel and created a triangle shape to best disguise the repair.
