Prie dieu, or prayer desk, for Casa Batlló by Antoni Gaudi, 1906
This unique prie dieu, or prayer desk, was especially commissioned for the interior of Casa Batlló by world renowned Catalan architect and sculptor Antoni Gaudi. Crafted by Gaudi in 1906 in collaboration with the famed sculptor Jaume Busquets, the important ébéniste Gaspar Homar, and the Symbolist painter Aleix Clapes, this extraordinary piece represents an astonishing culmination of Catalan design. As a work of great historical significance as well as a wholly unique example of Catalan Modernisme, this prie dieu is among the greatest masterpieces of the turn of the century decorative arts.

From the Met Museum
In 1685, the master cabinetmaker Alexandre-Jean Oppenordt received a commission from Louis XIV for 2 desks for his small rooms, which were situated behind the Hall of Mirrors. The desks were sumptuously finished with première partie marquetry, brass plaques, red tortoiseshell, and monograms of the King’s ciphers. One of these magnificent desks now stands on show at The Met, whilst the other, after passing through various fabulous hands in Europe, was repatriated back to France, being having been classified as a National Treasure. After a long and careful restoration, the desk today proudly stands in the Salon de l’Abondance, back home in Versailles. Finally the finished shots of the dining room project for @katiaperezdesign . This walnut sideboard has been fitted along one wall of the dining room. We’ve housed it within an alcove and have created a bulkhead to hide a steel beam. Remote controlled LED lighting has been recessed across the entire width of the unit. Towards the garden end of the room, we’ve built a bench seat to match, with storage space within. Great care and thought has gone into grain and panel selection of the walnut to ensure book matching of doors and side panels. The seat will have an upholstered cushion on the top and back for extra comfort. The sideboard is being templated for its stone top next week. We will post further pics once the room has been re carpeted and the new dining table installed. Thanks again @ovi_ovi78 for your help on this install 👍 - - - - - - #interior #design #contemporarydesign #britishmade #handcrafted #bespokefurniture #handmadeinengland #interiordesign #highend #furnituredesign #woodworking #furniture #woodwork #craftmanship #customfurniture #cabinetmaking #bespoke #handmade #cabinetmaker #finewoodworking #cabinetmaking #design #homedecor #decor #interiors #homedesign #interiorstyling #livingroomdecor (at Surrey, England, UK) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnv79wSDeOz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Here's some of my work in marquetry from school (2020-2021), made by hands and mostly at home (thanks Covid).
There's ebony, movingui, plane tree, amaranth wood, maple wood, padouk and a variety of wood burr.
The Sun and Moon and the Snakes patterns are my creations while the others one were patterns given to me by my teacher.
They were fun to make but honestly, I hope you never have to experience the stress of cutting through ebony and sweating madly because HOLY MOLY ebony is beautiful but IT'S SO FRAGILE GODANG IT!
