The eldest child of the infamous du Lac clan, Caelia always felt the weight of their family’s shame most keenly. She did her best to keep that burden off her younger sibling’s shoulders, but she could never fully shield them from the disdain of the other families.
When she was younger, she played the part of the demure, well-behaved lady, as her parents wanted. She even agreed to an arranged marriage to try and elevate the family’s status, but when the day came, she couldn’t go through with it. Something in her just knew that it was wrong.
She’s the reincarnation of Queen Guinevere, but she isn’t aware of that. She’s only had flashes of Guinevere’s memories in her dreams, which turned into vicious nightmares just before she was supposed to be married.
She ran off the day before her wedding, and took refuge in a tavern in King’s Rest called the Round Table. After the elderly innkeeper took pity on her, she started to work there, and when she died, Caelia inherited the tavern and has been running it ever since.
It was the innkeeper who introduced Caelia to the old ways and the order of the Mab. She was jaded to the knights by then, and embraced the old ways and has been a follower ever since.
Caelia is really flirty, especially with her regulars at the tavern, which leads some people to think that she’s a lot more promiscuous than she really is.
Her full bio is a WIP, but here’s some plot ideas to play around with:
Her former betrothed: Someone from a well-respected family in Avalon, their arranged marriage would have been about five years ago now. Should be around her age or a bit older, they may or may not have been in favor of the arrangement and may have been relieved when she ditched, or upset to be jilted at the altar. Potential for tension!
Birds of a feather: Someone who can commiserate with Caelia’s feelings of being looked down upon by others, maybe they’re an unmagik, a secret werewolf, or just the black sheep of their family! The two of them have bonded and become great friends over their shared misfithood.
Nemesis: Someone who despises Caelia, and she despises them in turn. Maybe they hate her for her family, or for their own reasons, but they cannot stand one another. In school they fought constantly, and as adults, they avoid one another religiously, so we’ll have be to be creative in finding ways to force them together to create some friction!
