Anna Holland, Kennesaw State Integrative Studies major concentrating in Communications and International Affairs, is going "Around the World in 80 Days." The semester-long program takes a group of students to Italy, Morocco, Australia, and Cuba for classes ranging from science to economics, expanding their world views in vastly different cultures from both developed and undeveloped countries. Within each country, they study in different locations like libraries, universities, restaurants, castles, and museums, and are even scheduled time to create their own plans (like a day-trip to Spain). Anna feels lucky for the group she's travelling with, how well they get along, and all the memories they're making together, which she says is the most rewarding part of the experience. "But it's also really hard. We're always, ALWAYS, travelling, whether it's by taxi, bus, train, plane, or even camel." She's most excited for salsa dancing in Cuba, which just recently opened its gates to the outside world, though feels like the most important lesson so far was learned in Morocco: "When explaining the original purpose of the Hajj, a guest lecturer said that the journey 'serves to detach people from their bodies and egos.' I feel like I'm on my own version of a Hajj, because that detachment is exactly what I feel. We [people globally] are all so similar no matter our location, culture, language, or religion."
