Female Artists & Their Struggles:

Female artists in the music industry seem to face the most challenges when it comes to having a long lasting career, staying relevant and maintaining the general publics attention. Whereas male artists get away with on most part putting in little to no effort in order to yield the same level of attention. Yes times are changing, however that change is occurring at an extremely slow pace. Double standards are still present within the industry and it is just unfair. I mean there was a year in which we saw very few female artists nominated amongst the male dominated Grammy nominations. The executive of the recording academy at the time released a statement in which he said that female artists needed to step up if they wanted to receive nominations. However that statement fell flat on its face. That being down to the fact that if you were to listen to the albums released during the consideration period for the Grammy nominations, you’d see that female artists were the ones that released the stronger bodies of work that year. Their male counterparts on most part released lacklustre records.

Women in the industry have to meet a certain standard or else both the media and general public criticise them for not meeting those standards. Female artists are expected to dress a certain way for a live performance on TV, have a variety of outfit changes on tour and show up on the red carpet in the most fashionable way. Male artists get away with sticking to the most basic outfit for their live performances, red carpet appearances and wearing that one look for their entire tour. That in itself indicates that women are expected to do a lot more. I am not saying that female artists should stop putting in the effort, but that shouldn’t be an expectation that if not met results in an attack. If you expect female artist to do that, then male artist need to also step up their game and present themselves in more than just the basics. An example of this was when Beyonce and Ed Sheeran performed together, the difference in how they presented themselves did result in a conversation around that to start on social media platforms.

Another double standard in the music industry is that women are criticised for the topics they choose to write about, however men write about the same topics and no one judges them for it. Both genders should be allowed to write about whatever they want to. It should be up to them as artists to dictate the focus for their songwriting. However if critics and the general public are going to point at a female artist with ‘All she ever writes about is her break-ups’ then that same line should be thrown at their male counterparts for doing the very same. Critics in particular shouldn’t play a role in that since they have the ability to demolish double standards within the industry. When writing a review it should be on the quality of the work, not the topic as that doesn’t impact quality. Plus as I mentioned earlier an artist should be able to write about whatever they want.

A rather weird aspect to the industry is that they seem to put an expiration date on women. That once they reach the age of thirty that is it. They seem to see a decline in their commercial performance, a lack of proper backing from their labels and radio suddenly is allergic. There are a few exceptions in which a fan base behind that artist allows for their continued success and that demand keeps labels and radio focused. It is odd that gender and age seem to play a role on determining whether radio plays them. Country music takes it to a whole new extreme. The industry seems more male dominated, with radio playing on most part music released by male artists. Female artists in country music have spoken about this quite a bit now and only last year did we see a shift in who gets played on radio. Country radio stations have not been ‘allowed’ to play two female artists in a row and they’d not even play a track from a group that contains a female artist after playing a solo female artist. Last year a few hosts of country radio stations stated that they were going to play more female artists. Country male artists seem to sing on most part about their trucks, partying it up and drinking. Yet radio eats them up.

Here is to hoping that things change, however now with streaming playing a huge role in showcasing what is popular and being listened to the most, the general public have a hand in this. We can help that shift in helping female artists get the recognition they deserve. Streaming services give you a vast library of music to choose from. Go out of your way to checkout the releases from female artists. There are a lot of great records being released by women in music. Dear Hollywood...

I am so glad the awards season is over! Phew...

For the fourth year in a row, I have not watched the actual broadcasts of any of the awards shows. I used to look forward to awards shows. I loved to see the clothes! I wanted to support my favorites and hope that they would win. Hollywood is pretty predictable for me. I could usually call who was going to win on every show.

Well, that all went to a huge hault back in 2016. At least I had YouTube to watch actual performances and maybe a gracious speech or two out of people I liked. Heck, I cant even do that anymore. Brad Pitt, you disappoint me... I'm happy you finally got your Oscar, but *facepalm*.

It never fails with you Hollywood people. You live in some kind of 'bubble' world. You have NO idea how the real world works. NONE what so ever. It makes me feel sorry for you. The award season isn't what it used to be. All you do is bitch and complain about politics, cancel culture, wokeness, etc. I've got some really good advise for you... JUST STOP IT!!!!

If you win, get up on the stage, thank you mom, dad, husband, wife, costars, director and whomever else you like along with God because its the right thing to do. Don't go off into a tamtrum about the political environment of our nation, don't talk negative about our POTUS, don't talk about 'climate change,' because there is no such thing as 'climate change.' #sorrynotsorry

So many of you have lost me as a 'fan' because of this sort of bull crap. Just don't do it. I dont care if you dislike the POTUS, don't talk about him on tv. I didn't turn my tv on to listen to you gripe about him or anyone else in politics. You can dislike him all you want. You can be a liberal all you want, but y'all have gone so far to the left that you're degrading people that don't agree with you. Have you ever heard the quote "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all?" You need to work on that.

Be nice. Be kind. Humble yourself. You have a boatload of money, do something good with it! Instead of getting up on the stage and saying you care about us regular folks (imo I don't think you realy do.) then take your millions and do something good with it. You have a cause that you're passionate about? Joaquin Phoenix, I get that you're a vegan and that's fine, but please stop talking about it and go donate some money to help a 'vegan' cause!

You believe in 'climate change' go do something worthy with your money to help. Go get your hands and feet dirty and help clean up!! Go on a misson trip. Be a missonary.

YOU ARE NOT POLITICIANS! WE DO NOT CARE TO HEAR YOUR OPINIONS ON POLITICS. YOUR JOB IS TO ENTERTAIN US. STOP USING YOUR PLATFORM TO SHOVE YOUR IDEALS DOWN OUR THROATS!!!!
