Ah its almost that magical time called going to work. I know I shouldn't complain, but ugh, gotta go out in this cold weather and most importantly of all I gotta leave my sexy lady, which is very not fun.

My niece named her lil my tribe babies after myself and my gf
the interesting part though is that i'm getting 'credit' (another way of saying i'm getting shit) for your boldness and eloquence, when i'm usually pretty soft and apologetic about these things. i can afford to be gentler though, i'm coming from a different position. it is hard for people to understand, apparently, that you aren't obligated to be patient and speak nicely to every single person who says something offensive (and whether they meant it that way or not doesn't matter).
I can be a wee bit abrasive...it's true. But it's only because I've been in the Tolkien fandom for so long and it's beyond obnoxious to see the ableist nonsense I deal with IRL bleeding into the fandom. I don't want anyone to feel like rubbish for having to sign or for being neurodivergent...especially since the Tolkien canon allows for so much more creative fiddling without relying on the backwards standards of our world.
awhitemothflew replied to your post: lol did you know you and i are the same person?
it should be totally obvious though, shouldn’t it? i mean you’re some kinda math wizard and i couldn’t get past precalc. and i’m a chick, and i’m pretty sure you’re a dude. and i’m fat and i’m pretty sure you aren’t. totally the same person. TOTALLY.
Yes but you made the mistake of agreeing with an unpopular opinion on Tumblr:
lol did you know you and i are the same person?
goddammit. my brain is awake now and it's kinda pissed off. btw by reblogging a public post and adding commentary that disagrees/points out fundamental problems, we're just big meanies who are picking on the op. :headdesk:
Ha. Well I've said it dozens of times...I cannot stop anyone from posting whatever they please, and I hold the same right to throw in my two pence. It's not my fault if an OP can't be bothered to research the two canons or not treat an injury like a Looney Tunes plot device. XD
Nu!Trek.
awhitemothflew:i really wanted to, myself, but now idk how i feel about it =/
- It's a decision that one has to make on one's own, I guess. If it's any comfort - a lot of my Old Trek friends are hesitating to go and see it, but I have a feeling that, ultimately, most of them will, because they are all still very much attached to Star Trek, despite what Abrams is doing to it and despite his attitude towards them as old fans and towards Star Trek in general. I'm not mad at them for it. I may not understand it, but I certainly accept it. They are bigger Trekkies than I am, most of them don't have it in their hearts to abandon that which they love, no matter how many slaps they're getting. It's fine, honestly, if I had grown up with Star Trek like most of them have and if I had had decades of fannish things I would find it impossible to leave as well.
I'm still around, of course, but only in the TOS and TNG corners, in the Old Trek fan faction, where I belong. Still, I am pleased when there are new fans who are eager to learn about TNG. I can still help those fans to get into this show and I consider it a success when someone tells me "I'm watching TNG now because of you and your blog". It's the least I can do for Gene's legacy to live on.
Generally, however, I've distanced myself from Star Trek as a franchise. I drew the line after years of disappointment (ENT, Nemesis) when I saw the very first promo pic for the 2009 movie, and I have stuck to it. I don't care about Star Trek in its current form and I'm no longer wanted by those in charge anyway, there is no reason for me to be interested in it anymore.
I'm not saying I'll never be interested again, however - all it takes is someone in charge who knows what they're doing and who also shows respect for Gene Roddenberry's idea of what Star Trek is supposed to be. Also, it needs to be something original and new, and not a reboot copy of The Original Series or any other series. If those criteria are met, I'll be back. As long as Abrams and his minions are in charge, however, Star Trek has lost me as a fan. (Not that they care, of course. This is something that I need to do for myself and my sanity.)

awhitemothflew said: Martha is a badass but i read some spoilers about her which, if they’re true, will piss me off so idk. also as i recall they very rarely/briefly acknowledge racial issues during her travels w/ the Doctor.
Spoilers? I'm only finishing up series 4 right now, so I might be a behind!
Yes, they glaze over it VERY briefly.the writers were (unsurprisingly) lazy about how they handled racism and racial issues. They were extremely fucking lazy and hesitant to explore them when the opportunity is presented to them multiple times during series 3.
There's that and the fact that they spend nearly every episode either within London or another planet. It's all very Eurocentric and it's really grating on my nerves.
When Doctor Who casts Idris Elba as the doctor, then we can talk. I would LOVE to see the fandom's reaction. Suddenly everyone's colorblindess would disappear and they would look for every excuse in the book to dislike his character.
This is random, but I noticed that Martha gets a lot of hate for pining after the doctor. However, when people talk about how poorly 10's character develops by the end of his run, they always excuse it and blame it on the writers. Why doesn't Martha get this courtesy extended to her?
