Another for the HCs: Irene Adler

Somehow, in my combined inbox, these and the ones that were sent to @pennywaltzy all got buried so I apologize for taking so long to answer them! But I’m going to try and hit one of these characters a day.

IRENE ADLER

She was top of her class in a university in the States, one of the more prestigious ones.

She only wears her hair down when she feels comfortable around someone (in further meetings with Sherlock, her hair is always down).

She owns multiple white dresses to wear in public, finding it interesting to be out in public being “virginal” looking when she’s anything but.

She’s had few partners of her own that she chooses because she has trust issues.

The couple where she was rumoured to be with both parties? The wife was someone she was training to be a dominatrix because she had asked to learn when she found out her husband was a client. She never had a sexual affair with Irene but the husband found out and got jealous regardless.

She’s known Mycroft for years, and would have considered bedding him one of her greatest accomplishments by melting The Ice Man.

She could tell Sherlock was confused when he was trying to read her and that changed her opinion of him for the better, as being someone she didn’t just want to seduce but to get to know better.

Her favourite colour is green, despite what she wears for the most part, and she has loads of plants in certain parts of her home, including the area of her bedroom Sherlock did not see.

Kate is an old friend from university and had originally been a dominatrix herself who wanted to leave the subpar conditions in the States and Irene asked her to be a personal assistant of sorts.

Neither Irene or Kate are actually British, but Kate has a Manhattan accent and Irene usually has a California non-accent

Oh honey I'm so sorry that you have to deal with all this, I wish I could help you out somehow. But if you want to rant/vent I am here for you ok?

Thanks, hun. I will in a bit. I’m just kind of taking a break and playing one of my mom’s Facebook games as long as my wrist isn’t hurting badly.

I did talk to my son, though, and he said compared to abuse he’s been through in the past he’s sad about certain things but he still loves L and his adoptive family, but I told him if he thinks things are unfair in a really bad way or he’s being treated horribly to tell me and other adults, and so he said he’d tell his therapist. So I’m going to hold off on pushing issues until it becomes a situation my son thinks he can’t tolerate. He’s got two years, two weeks and two days until he’s 18, and he graduates at 17 so he may be able to leave earlier, but I’ll keep an eye on things until he says he wants me to intervene.

But yeah, once he is legal I will have Words with her, I swear.

Halloween asks: 1 to 16 and 13, 19 & 24

When you die, what do you want done with your remains? I want to be cremated and have part of my ashes sprinkled where my Nana is (because my mom wants the same thing) and then the rest my family can have something cool done with them, like make an heirloom or have them plant a tree type thing.

What is the weirdest thing you own? I honestly have no idea. A string doll that hangs on my mom's rearview mirror, maybe?

Have you ever played with a Ouija Board? Yes.

Do you believe in ghosts? Kind of? I think spirits are around, but ghosts...not so much.

Have you ever had an encounter with things that go ‘bump in the night’? No

Do you have a Deja Vu story? I have a few but I honestly can't remember them. I get deja vu feelings a lot.

Do you still trick-or-treat? No. I've handed out candy and little trinkets to kids the last few years or when I was working at Legoland would be there observing the Halloween stuff.

Have you ever had a black cat cross you, and have a streak of bad luck afterwards? No. I don't think black cats are unlucky.

Least favorite thing about Halloween? All the emphasis on horror movies being The Thing to watch. 

Favorite Serial Killer? Don't have one.

Favorite thing to do in a Graveyard? Pay my respects to the dead.

Favorite Halloween Movie? The Worst Witch.

Favorite Ghost Story? Not so much a ghost story, but "A Rose For Emily" is one of my favorite creepy stories. I read it my junior year of high school and loved it.

Favorite Pumpkin flavored food? Harvest Pie from Coco's

Best halloween you ever had? Toss-up between the ones in Virginia, the ones when I lived in my old neighborhood in Jeffries Ranch and then the one my senior year of high school where I was away with the girls volleyball team on Halloween (I was covering the event for the newspaper) and the coach gave us each a bag of Halloween candy the bus ride to the event and we all held our breath when we crossed graveyards and railroad tracks and told ghost stories.

Do you like Apple Cider? I love it. I happen to live near Julian, CA so we get some of the absolute best cider in California.

18 & 23!

18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? what were they?Literally anything by Tamora Pierce. She shaped my childhood, so naturally she also shaped my writing. Finding my first book from her series is one of the few clear childhood memories I have.David Eddings and his Belgariad/Mallorean series were pretty good, too. He had a lot of problems with his stories (female characters where? racist tropes who?) but damn if he wasn’t good at world building. I only hope to match his level some day.

23) any obscure life experiences that you feel have helped your writing?As much as I complain about the Navy, I learned a lot about myself after joining. I don’t think I ever could have written anger in the way I do now if I hadn’t experienced the kind of raw fury I’ve experienced since I joined. I also learned how to deal with fear, which makes writing fear and writing overcoming fear easier overall.
