Ahhhh why are awkward engineers so awkward. Just got asked at lunch in front of other people, including nick who was hopefully too far down the table to hear: "hey, what was up with you and Nick Saturday night?" I then had to be like "oh, I just like playing with paying with people’s hair". Casually glossing over the fact that we also ended up holding hands.
Ahhhh. I’m far too awkward for this shit.
The public reaction
The Video
For the initial presentation for Forbidden Tourism we presented a various range of opportunities directed by real characters, in which we personalised situations and props for them to complete an awkward task.
This was presented in the form of a film joined with a live performance from the final character, in which the client who stated they were uncomfortable with their appearance and body conscious in public was asked to remove his clothing in front of a live audience.
The live audience were asked to hold hands and sit at an uncomfortably close proximity to each other in order to create this aura of feeling awkward.
The performance had the obvious shock factor we were hoping to achieve from the nudity, and worked well as a piece of communication. It was a huge risk as far as the presentation
was concerned.
When revisiting the project I immediately noticed that I was unhappy with the graphic element of the project. I also felt as though I had to identify the body of the project. I felt that the interesting part was the engineering aspect. How can we understand the client, relate to them and the
engineer a task to suit them?
I tried to tackle both issues hand in hand by designing the online network through which a client can approach the project, can share their experiences and ideas, and to communicate directly to the
ëengineersí behind the website.
