The sun was still far from rising by the time Nathaniel made his way through the underground tunnels. He didn't mind, quite the opposite actually. The children were asleep, the streets were empty, nobody had seen him enter the system and nobody could actually be missing him at this hour. The chilling night air nibbled on the bare skin of his face and hands, casing him to shiver from time to time and it didn't get any better as he entered the long straight corridor. Still, he didn't particularly mind it. He had been summoned by his master after all, there was no way he would refuse to come.
The large door to Fyodor's room appeared before him shortly after. Nathaniel stopped there to compose himself a bit. He noticed his hands were trembling slightly and the sudden urge to push his glasses up, even though they were deffinitelly not slipping down his nose, overcame him for a brief moment. He took a few deeper breaths to calm his rapidly beating heart, not sure if the feeling swelling in his chest was nervousness or desire. But it wasn't like he cared much for that either. With his free hand, he took a hold of the silver cross hanging around his neck. The feeling of the metal, cold against his hand, was always enough to help him regain his composure. Finally, he dared to push the door open.
The room was illuminated by the huge computer screens, much like during all the other times he entered. Some of them still only showed boring static while others were filled with a complicated code. He had always found it impressive how Dostoyevski could make any sense in all this seeming mess of ones and zeroes. Without showing any hesitation, he made his way to the man in the spinning chair and soon enough stood beside him. He clutched his bible tighter to hide the very slight shiver that overcame his hands again.
"Did you desire to see me, master Dostoyevski?" His voice rang clear in the otherwise silent room and yet, he couldn't help the feeling that Dostoyevski may not had heard him. After all, even just the way he was staring at the computer screens was showing just how above every mortal on earth he was. It wouldn't be at all surprising if he failed to notice one lowly servant. Nathaniel decided to speak up once more, just to be certain he was heard. "I apologize for the wait, I came as fast as I could. What did you need from me?"
