It’s me 🥲
“Write about what you think is your most awkward trait... maybe include an example of it.”
This may not be awkward for other people, but it’s super awkward for me. Sometimes when I’m explaining something, I’ll see understanding dawn on the other person’s face—the signal for “you can stop explaining now, I get what you’re saying”—but for the life of me I cannot stop. I have to finish explaining, even if I know they’re already on the same page as me and I’m making an awkward douche of myself. It is so painful, because my experience of these situations is like being on auto pilot: I’m watching myself and listening to myself finish the thought I started, and there’s nothing I can do to stop myself talking. The other person wants to move the conversation along but we are both helpless in this situation. The explanation cannot be stopped until it is complete. It is definitely something I would like to change about how I interact with people, but for the life of me I have no idea how to interrupt myself rattling things off like that.
