Stephen Wiltshire

Stephen is an artist who was diagnosed with Autism in the 1970′s. His parents had helped him enroll to a special school where he can build his future. When he was young, his first words were “pencil” and “paper”. When he was given those things, his life as an artist began.

His first drawing was a classroom field trip. Stephen possesses the ability to absorb vast complicated cities and transfer them to paper. As his ability grew, he earned the title of human camera. He has the ability to draw complex and realistic things from memory.

To me, his artwork is extraordinary. It makes me understand why he got the name human camera.

When I did research on Stephen, I was mainly researching artists who have autism. I needed to know if people with autism, just like Stephen and me, have a positive future.

Clip Studio Paint EX is a great program which is incredibly versatile and allows the user to use both Vector and Bitmap styles simultaneously on a timeline very similar to flash.

Along with that it has a brilliant feature which allows the user to manipulate a 3D model however you like within the scene to help them keep proportions for human characters, you can even import custom 3D models and poses to allow your drawings to stay more accurate relative to the models.

I absolutely love this program and its many tools that have been added to by the community to create the ultimate program for my 2D digital drawing needs.

Jill Thompson

An American comic illustrator who is also a stage, film and television writer. She is married to a man who is also a comic book writer.

From looking on her work, Jill has worked on these images using pencil first. Then used water colour paint to colour in the characters. The lighting applied to the painted drawings looks realistic and shows how the characters would look in our world.

Jill has this beautiful technique of creating scenes in a story using her method of water painting. On this image, it is mostly black and white but with a slight red on one of the characters. It makes me think of a watery atmosphere that has filled the environment of the drawn and painted image.

Jill has worked on Scary godmother. The art of the front cover looks to have been done with water coloured paint. I am not really fond of this art poster of Scary Godmother, but I believe that the poster could have been improved. The background and the characters look like they were done in ruff sketching. The lining looks blurry and the colours of the night sky feels like a foggy atmosphere coating down over my view.

I have went out today and bought this from WHSmiths. Alex Rider is based on the best seller novel series that has also got its own graphic novel version of the same story.

I have been looking up on one of the artists named Antony Johnston who was part of creating this graphic novel. In his other projects, he has worked on “The coldest city”, The coldest winter” and mainly “Wasteland”. Upon looking at his artwork, he possesses different art styles to creating graphic novels.

His art style for Alex rider is amazing in my eyes. The colour on the characters looks easy to do, and the drawings of the environments look just as simple to do.

They also happen to look cinematic based on the viewing angle of the locations the characters are in. These graphic drawings of every panel look ruff to draw, but simple in my eyes. The city on the last panel is just as simple to make.

Gurihiru

Gurihiru is an art illustrator who works on comic books for marvel such as squirrel girl, spider-man, and etc...

The art style used by Gurihiru is inspiring. It colour contrast is amazing, because it gives me a brighter perspective of the world. This is my favorite art style that I have seen. Too me, it looks like Gurihiru has taken a lot of time to put effort into building a front cover for this comic.

However, this drawing below looks just as good. What I like most about these 2 drawings is how Gurihiru has done the body positioning. I like how she has done the whole body of the character.

I normally do body drawings by doing ruff sketching of the human figure. I draw the shapes of the body, then I draw over it to make the outline of the character more clear. Presumably, that must be how Gurihiru must have designed her characters.

Peter Howson

Peter is an artist who is diagnosed with autism and Asperger’s syndrome.

When he was six, he completed his painting of Jesus’s crucifixion. After leaving art school, His life as an artist began. He was becoming famous for his art work pursuing to do war art.

In recent years, Peter was trying to raise awareness for people who are in the autistic spectrum throughout Scotland and the UK. In his opinion, Peter believed that autism isn’t something easy for anyone to understand. His quote “People understand disability — physical disability — but autism is something that has really taken a long long time for the public to understand.”

I’ve been doing some research on him because It amazes me how many people he can draw on one canvas. All of his art work makes me want to follow his footsteps. All the shading in art work is really detailed, and the outlines of the people are accurate.

Mike Mignola

Mike is an art illustrator who has done the art of the hell boy comic series. All Mike wanted to do before getting a job in the comic book industry was to draw monsters. He developed a passion for monster stories that had lead him in the direction to become a comic book artist.

After I’ve looked at his art work, there were a few things I would’ve changed to make it better based on my preferences on Mike’s art work, but that would just be me. If I had done these two example pieces, I would’ve added something in the background instead of leaving it just plan black.

Aside from the Hell boy series, he has done some other works to for other comic books. He had worked with Marvel comics to produce them the art work they need for their stories.

Mike has helped Marvel with the poster design for the Rocket Raccoon comic series. In addition, he has done some other art pieces that I thought were interesting.

This only thing I could learn from his life doing comic art is that he was driven to do it by his fascinations and his interests. I have been interested into doing my own superhero series based on what I want to see in the world and in people. I like to see joy in peoples hearts, and some comedy in the real world.

Tradd Moore

Tradd Moore is a graphic novelist who has worked together with a person named Ales Kot to produce the new world series.

I like the art of this comic poster. The colouring looks simple, without any texture’s our shading applied to it. What I compare it to my artwork, I can see that the colouring looks as simple as each other.

As far as I have seen, it looks like he has used Photoshop to draw these posters and colour them in. On this one there is a bit of texture to the skin of the character. That to me looks like he is adding to his progress.

This poster of Mrs Marvel and Spider-man is where I have got the idea to research on Tradd Moore. However, it did mention about Heather Moore below the poster. I have tried to research on her too, but I cannot find this exact person I wanted to search for. I don’t know if she is Tradd’s wife or sister.
