Sometimes, life created the strangest situations.
Pallette hadn't anticipated having to bail Axl out on a mission after he got in over his head, but here she was, carrying him back to the extraction point. Of course none of the other Hunters or their navigators were available… and of course the dunce would get his legs disabled and his copy chip knocked offline.
…That promised to be a tough fix. Fortunately, the blueprints for the new-gens hadn't all been eradicated yet, so at least they had that to go off of.
"…Hey, why can't we just zap back to base, anyway?" Axl spoke up, sounding both confused and annoyed. "Why d'ya have to carry me?"
"'Cuz we couldn't shut down the jammer," Pallette answered him. "Thanks to you getting your butt kicked."
Axl's tone became sheepish. "Sorry 'bout that…"
"Seriously…" Pallette breathed a sigh. "I'm about ready to get a copy chip installed so I can take over your missions for you." A thought crossed her mind. "…Can you transfer the DNA data you've already copied to other reploids with copy chips?"
"Dunno." Axl shrugged - an action that jarred him loose from Pallette's hold. "Ack!"
Pallette tried to catch Axl before he fell to the ground, but he ended up destabilizing her enough to knock her over. She yelped as she hit the ground, then glared at the idiot reploid who'd managed to get them into this predicament.
"Uhhh… whoops…" Axl lifted himself up a little, then collapsed again. "…You okay?"
…He was in a pretty sorry state right now. Maybe she'd been too harsh toward him.
"Yeah, just gotta…" Pallette slowly pulled herself to her feet, gently pushing Axl off as she went, and then she went to pick him up again. "…Maybe try a different position? You could hold on better if you used your arms, right?"
Axl blinked at her, and then his face turned beet-red as his exoskeleton became hot to the touch, and despite everything, Pallette couldn't help but laugh. He was an adorable little menace - her favorite of the Hunters now.
Maybe next time, she'd see how he would react to being asked out on a date…
