The last few weeks have been haywire, and tonight proved to be no better. From a tearful goodbye for now reunion with her father to a screaming match with her mother, Catalina was glad they were leaving the country for once. She was hopeful of the nice accommodations, and the fun event Metzger promised them. She was even excited and hopeful her research would be fixed by the time they returned back to the states.
But then she got hit over the head with an expensive wine bottle. She knew it was expensive because it was red and didn’t make her gag. She saw someone she admired kill someone, she saw people she didn’t even like that much kill someone and it was too much for her. Too much blood on her hands, from the fight she herself got into. Why did she want to be a hero when she knew she was just meant to be like a small, frightened mouse? Why did all of this happen?
The bus ride back was tense and her split lip and throbbing head occupied her mind. She was glad to go back to the hotel, and made her way to the business room, eyes scanning all the computers and mahogany tables. She used to sit at tables like this, at conferences with other important people. Glancing behind her as the door opened, she saw Sol and swallowed hard. The other woman always made her nervous. “Sorry, do you need the room?”
