bagel baby | jalison
“How is this still what we wound up getting?” After almost an hour out at the closest 24-hour grocery store, Jake was walking back into the bedroom of Alison’s condo with a plate full of freshly cooked bagel bites. “I’m not complaining, but I am kind of... impressed.” Furrowed brows morphed into a lighter expression as he grinned, walking towards the bed and holding out the plate for his girlfriend to take. This wasn’t the first time that they’d wound up having bagel bites since the pregnancy started and Jake had a feeling that it’d be far from the last. Mostly, he was just glad to not be the mercy of any weird ketchup sandwiches and as long as Alison had a craving for something, he was more than willing to pull his pants back on and go right to the store, no matter the hour. It was hard to miss the irony in Alison - or the baby - craving bagel bites. Out of all the classic snack food to have spawned from the nineties, this seemed like one that would have a special place in their lives for a long time.
Once the plate was passed over, Jake climbed onto the bed beside Alison, doing his best to stifle a yawn in the same motion that he slid into place beside her. “What’s on?” He asked, glancing up at the television. Adjusting a few pillows behind himself, Jake settled, an arm wrapping around Alison’s shoulders as he stayed sitting partially up and reclined, legs stretched out across the mattress. It was almost half-past two in the morning, but after standing under fluorescents in the supermarket and spending time in the kitchen, Jake didn’t quite feel like going straight to bed. Besides, he and Alison had mastered the skill of strange 2 AM conversations, so now wouldn’t be any exception. Especially not with fresh bagel bites and all the bad television they could ever want, available right at their fingertips.

Get me back how, exactly? You're supposed to be nice! You're meant to treat me like a queen or some shit.
I am nice! It just seems unfair if you get to embarrass me and I can’t embarrass you.
