the most iconic thing in gunnerkrigg was when red told 'blue' that she was in love with her but panicked and pretended shed said "ayilu" instead of "i love you" and that became 'blue's actual name

Gunnerkrigg ramble

Dangit, Red.  Annie’s deal with the psychopomps kept the whole thing a secret from the Court, which saved both you AND Ayilu from expulsion or worse (what happens to ex-fairies who get expelled), AND saved Smitty’s life, and this is the thanks you give her? 

Much like her father, Annie is sometimes inarticulate under pressure.  It doesn’t mean Red’s accusations were fair, though: a Court doctor may not have been able to heal Smitty at all, and it would have lead to dire consequences for Red, Ayilu, and Parley even if they could.  Annie pretty clearly acted in the best interest of her friends at a cost to herself.  Red is just too self-centered to realize it.

So, when fairy's get a name, they get their own clothes and a job. Before that, they have uniforms that look grey in the ether. Bugsy got a dress that's bright pink in and out of the ether when she got her name. But Red gets clothes that are almost totally grey except for the bismuth symbols which are surrounded in a red circle. I wonder if these clothes are tied to whatever job Red got. Since her clothes are covered in Bismuth symbols, maybe the Court gave her a job that is keeping her close to them because of her relationship to Annie. Maybe she's being purposefully mean to Annie because of whatever job she has means she thinks Annie won't be completely safe around her.
