I think one of the things that really fucks me up about Grace and Rocky and their bond is, like, you very conceivably could (and people do) construe their relationship as romantic. They're very close, they trust each other implicitly, they have soft moments together (deleted sleepover scene I owe you my life), etc., but it's not. It's got all the trappings of a romance, but it's not!! It's platonic!! It's a canonical deep platonic bond-- they are each other's person in the closest sense, but it's not romantic at all. Grace doesn't engage in romance at all during the movie, and Rocky already has a mate he adores, but they love each other deeply still and it's not romantic. You don't really see that in media a lot.
Personally, the romantic read is a bit boring to me-- it's been done before. But all of that as platonic? Oh hell yeah, sign me up. I can't really articulate how much that means to me, especially since it's in a very popular movie. Holy fuck, I want what they have 🥺
