I’ve consistently seen that Crono, Robo and Ayla are recommended as a team (especially if you take the time to give Robo lots of Speed tabs, as his greatest hindrance is his low speed) and its very pleasing to me that this means one likely team composition is:
1. A perfectly normal kid who’s pretty good with a sword and is otherwise not particularly stand out in anyway, prior to getting the magic of the heavens themselves and determined to save the planet from a horrible parasite. Looks basically like a red-haired Goku but interestingly has nothing in common with him, personality or skill-wise
2. an actual literal post apocalyptic robot who gains an appreciation for natural life and defies his purpose for the sake of his friends. can’t actually use magic himself because he’s not a biological lifeform (and thus doesn’t benefit from a bloodline connection to an ancient kingdom of magic), but he’s still a super advanced robot with lasers and rocket punches and healing beams.
3. a boisterous cave woman who may be the ancestor of humanity as we know it. the rest of the party uses magic or advanced technology, she chucks enemies like rocks and punches them in the face and kisses her comrades to heal them. Her insistence on trying to save her enemies even after they plot to destroy her people strongly paints her as, ironically, more of a all-loving shoenen protagonist thant the actual Goku-looking protagonist.
