Misfits in Toyland OC: Zill
Human: Stretched and gangly. Straight brown hair worn shoulder length, beginning to recede. Preference for slightly baggy clothing in half-hearted quest for androgynous look. Perpetual dour expression. Ever so slightly unkempt at all times. Glasses.
Toyfolk: A Zoids 1999 model Ultrasaurus electronic model kit, approximating the appearance of a gigantic brontosaurus-shaped battle mecha/aircraft carrier. Several detail pieces and accessories are missing, including five of the six pilot figurines, with the remaining locked into the headbound cockpit at all times. Body often appears choked with dust and disuse no matter the amount of recent activity.
Toyland: Military Barracks
Biography: What’s a sin? Transgression against that known as right, of course, wrong committed in full knowledge they are improper. But whose judgement of wrong, whose framework of propriety? For those who inhabit Toyland, their shepherd and shadowy master sets the template, an absolutist moral judge who sees past laws and faiths to strike at something truly rotten in a new toy’s soul, remove them from complicated moral influences so they might one day grow beyond into a better plaything. Yet when we look on this, prize of the Toyland Army’s emergency reserve, the sins that dark spectre found upon her heart prove most difficult to discern.
A sin of inaction, perhaps, not reaching out at the right times to intervene on her sickened father’s behalf, ensure he got better care as little things fell through the cracks. A sin of resentment, privately stewing at his interminable condition, never bettering or worsening, requiring the exact routine of dull attendance day in and day out. A sin of frustration, silently wishing the worst without meaning it, and getting exactly her deliverance. A sin of guilt misplaced, looking back upon all her shortcomings during the ordeal and seeing none of her strength, none of the good and comfort and happiness she brought by effort, only those black minutes of despondence and wicked thought. A sin of memory abused, blaming herself for a death the departed would never consider her fault, creating a monster of her person contrary to the angel her father saw in that thin, wracked frame.
In truth, none of these damned her. The withdrawal, the abdication, the refusal to live her life for insistence she ruined all by failure to save a life that was not hers to save - these cost her a human life on Earth. The thread of life slackened by a mind privately wishing death on itself, leaving responsibilities unattended, friendships unreciprocated, family unhappy, a prophecy of blight and ruin self-fulfilled by hatred and misery and blame mislaid. She could not continue, and so, without resistance, she was taken.
She speaks not her name, though she gladly shares her story. For want of any easier place in her new society, she let others define her, her fake weaponry a perfect fit for defense against the strange and wild out in the forgotten wastes of the island, should they ever rear their heads. Most days she simply sulks, awaiting further punishment never to come, the flourishing possibilities of Toyland denied until she can forgive herself and move on from the day her life fell apart, the day she came to see herself as this monster. All willing, may it come soon.
Personality: Zill has become a recluse in Toyland, engaging little with civilian inhabitants or the armed forces she finds herself amongst. She can be coaxed into conversation easily, though she is incredibly myopic in talking about herself and her numerous failings. Her toy body proves a special point of interest, as she feels intense alienation from it due to resemblance with a model kit her father displayed at home, one about which she knew very little before his passing. What she has revealed about happier (or at least more neutral) facts of her human life have prompted several other Toyfolk to invite her away from her perpetually unfulfilled “duties,” though to date she has acknowledged few and accepted less.
Toy Brain Urges: Defense against the hostile outsider and regimentation. While she is not happy with it in the slightest, life around the Toyland Barracks at least provides the opportunity to scratch those itches.
Fun Fact: Zill’s consciousness is locused in both the entirety of the Ultrasaurus mecha and the tiny metal figurine body of the pilot in its head, with priority given to the latter when out of the cockpit. Terrified of people finding out how small and pathetic her true form is when divorced from the gigantic plastic dinosaur, she has not told anyone about this aspect of her nature.
Krampus Phrase: “If you will not pilot this craft any further, perhaps I can interest you in another assignment…”
