psa: do NOT steal fanfics and claim them as your own

it’s really disheartening to see when people take fanfics/chunks of fanfics and repost them, claiming the work as their own. at first i saw it happen to fellow authors, some of whom decided to leave the fandom and lock their fics away. 

at first, i had thought that leaving the fandom was something i wouldn’t do, regardless of what happened with me and my fics. 

but now, after being on the receiving end of someone who has taken my work, changed the names and reposted it, claiming it as their own--as if they strived for hours on it, typing and retyping, painstakingly polishing and creating it, putting a piece of their soul into it--it hurts. 

it hurts even more when they block me, ignoring me when i tell them to take the fanfic down. it’s blatant disrespect and a complete disregard for my feelings, and i am exhausted trying to follow up and fight against something that i shouldn’t have to in the first place. 

so now, after experiencing the intense disappointment, pain and sick feeling in my stomach, i understand why fandom authors leave and lock away their fics. because i want to do the exact same thing.
