'Are You The One' Season 8 Proves Dating Shows Can Be More Than Just Hot People Making Out
the fact that either nour and amber or max and justin are definitely not a match is hurting my brain and heart
MTV’s latest season of Are You The One has made television history: it’s the first series to feature an entirely bisexual+ cast.
Season eight of the reality dating series — dubbed “Come One Come All” — debuted in tandem with the worldwide Pride celebrations, showcasing a cast of 16 singles for whom “the one” could be anyone, as the show’s slogan states.
In a reality television landscape largely built on heteronormative ideals, there’s something groundbreaking about watching contestants not only speak freely about their identities but engage in a dating construct usually reserved for heterosexual couples.
The cast features some of the most dynamic people shown on television, all of whom engage in honest conversations about their gender and sexual identities.

'Are You The One' Is Giving Queer Folks The Chance At Love, Sex, And Everything In Between
If you told me I would be using the phrase “emotionally mature” to describe a mainstream dating show on cable television, I would have laughed in your face. But that’s exactly what this season of Are You The One? has been.
Are You The One? Season 8 promised to give us some major LGBTQ+ representation with an entire cast of sexually fluid individuals. But the show has given us so much more — vulnerability, introspection, and some honest-to-goodness human growth.

this is not a drill: one of my favorite youtubers did a video about s8 of are you the one, aka the queer messy reality show that inspired @marbleflan and i to write a spn au basically riffing on this season of ayto
and lo i bring you gifts:
here's a 90min recap of that messy season for you to enjoy and then when you're done, here's a spn fanfic for you to read:
Perfect Match | 41k | Rated Teen+ | Dean/Cas endgame but it's a reality dating show where everyone is dating everyone else, so there's a sampler platter before you get to the main course. we've got a little of dean/lisa, dean/benny, dean/crowley, dean/bela, anna/dean, and cas/crowley, cas/meg. dean was this season's messiest soldier. also! garth is here! just as a camera operator though. but charlie is also here! as a contestant! and gabriel! really, so many people!
here is an excerpt from chapter 2:
He winds up sitting back down where Lisa found him, staring into space and trying to be as quiet and as boring as possible. He hears someone approach, and he tries to stay as still as he possibly can, like maybe they'll think he's asleep.
"Hello, Dean," Castiel says, and Dean jumps a fucking mile.
"Jesus Christ. Warn a guy," he says, glancing over at him, but his eyes skim past him, beyond him, looking for that cameraman. Castiel follows his gaze, looking over his shoulder, and then turns back.
"He left. I told him Gabriel was trying to get people to go skinnydipping with him."
Dean doesn't know what to say to that, to how Castiel knew what he was thinking. He makes some kind of noise and turns away, rubbing his hands in front of him. The thing is, he hasn't super paid attention to what Castiel's been up to, busy with Lisa and all. He matched with one of those British guys, the tall, lanky one. Dean couldn't see it, but, you know. Not his business.
Except it could be. It could be his business.
It isn't though. Definitely not his business.
I just finished watching the finale of ayto... and not to be like that but i love them all so much and i lost it when i saw kai crying
