Spots used to be relatively rare, with most Ayunae being striped or solid colored. By pure chance, the Great Calamity wiped out a large number of striped Ayunae, leading to future generations propagating the spotted gene.

The Ayunae are a race of cat-like people that live deep within the Faron forests of Hyrule.
They are known to be reclusive, but generally friendly (or at least neutral) towards outsiders.
Their average height is between that of a Hylian and a Rito.
Their eyes are usually orange, amber, or dark green. Blue eyes have been documented in rare cases.
The most common fur colors are browns and blacks, but other colors pop up occasionally.

While these days it is more common to see Ayunae with spot patterns, 100 years ago, their furs were predominantly striped!
This is a first draft version, some aspects more than likely will change! I really don't like the top part of their outfit lol. It's just hard to move things around with traditional art :)
Fern/Night Shadow is the Ayun Champion, which is my original species – info on them is coming soon! The Ayunae do not have warriors, but Fern is their best hunter, so they are chosen to represent the Ayunae, and pilot their divine beast (which I have yet to design).
They're shipped with Revali because I love him and self-indulgence is cool and hip! The kitty and the bird are kissing (and also bickering a lot. Like. A LOT. It takes them a while).
Fern cares deeply about those important to them. Fern is, however, bad at saying it. They prefer to speak through their actions rather than their words, mostly because non-Ayunae tend to find them to be rather blunt in an unpleasant way. They just don't see the point in messing around with pointless small talk and social niceties. Especially now, with the entire kingdom on the line.
Fern will tell you to get your shit together and get your ass moving with no regard for your emotional state. Fern will also die for you.
Fern has two timelines: one where they succeed in defeating Ganon, and everyone lives happily ever after (or, well, at least they get to live), and a "canon-compliant" one, where BotW's events still happen, and Fern is just yet another Champion who's died along with everyone else. The pain is fun to explore. I love suffering.
Note (this will be explained more in-depth in future posts): Ayunean language has no gendered pronouns, so the translations of their Ayunean names usually default to "he" regardless of the Ayun's actual gender.

🐦 I'm often mistaken for a selfshipper (I do use the tags but my ficto-attraction is real and not a hobby), but aside from my irl relationship, I much prefer oc x canon ships to self-inserts. Oc creation is my favorite thing, and I like the creative freedom of independent ocs that aren't just me slightly to the left.
That said, I do have ships with Revali – three of them, funnily enough. Somehow, every time I rejoin the fandom, I lose interest in the former ones and get inspired to create a new one instead. Not sure what that says about me.
The first one is my oc, a Rito named Feye. The second one is a human self insert named Lark that's literally just me but cooler and created for self-indulgent purposes because, I confess, Vali is special and I want him for ✨️myself✨️. They're probably a mary-sue and I have no shame about it. I am cringe but I am free. I still love my girl Feye though <3
