So, as demons are much differently comprised than humans, azazel is a very, very different sort of subject. While it appears that he has skin, it’s really billions of clear little scales piled atop each other in thick layers (which is why, if he’s touched, his flesh feels a bit rough). These scales are highly flammable, and are present nearly all over his body, save for his head.
There are two reasons for this. One; camouflage when in human environments. While he doesn’t have a human form and his back spines can’t exactly be hidden, they can be compressed against his back (which, they usually are in resting position) and easily covered this way, although it’s very uncomfortable for him.
The other reason is that it contributes to a certain ability only present in the Drakon types of demons. Since he is the last of his kind, he is now the only one capable of using it. The scales act as a sort of flint, and when a certain extra chemical carried by his red blood cells are released to stimulate the "flints," his skin erupts in a raging, fiery inferno. The flames don’t hurt him at all, and he wields them with iron fists.
Another notable combating style of his is the use of venom. In the very back of his throat, he has two glands. One is the usual salivary gland, and the other is the gland which released the venom. The same chemical which stimulates his scales to alight also controls the shift between saliva and venom. He spits the venom at his opponent’s face. It’s strong enough to make them permanently blind. Or, if swallowed, it temporarily causes the whole body to shut down for a considerable amount of time.
There are downfalls to both abilities, however. If Azazel should swallow his own venom, the affects will take a tenfold toll on him, possibly resulting in death. After using his ignition ability, the scales are charred and dead, and he then goes through a long period of shedding to peel such useless pieces of flesh off.
