Standing in Wonder as I Look Up Under the Trees All Around (Congaree National Park) by Mark Stevens
North Chalone Peak While on the Prewett Point Trail (Pinnacles National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Prewett Point Trail with a view looking to the south to the ridges and peak of North Chalone Peak. This setting is in Pinnacles National Park. My thought on composing this image was to take advantage of the ridges, spurs and other terrain features in the way they created a layer look from near to far. I used the higher ground that I was located on to bring the peak up into the image and create more of a sweeping view, leading up to that.
Real Bisti Badlands by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking around and exploring the Bisti Badlands with a view looking to the south-southeast to some eroded formations and bluffs present in this part of Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area. What I wanted to capture with this image was to have a balanced, leveled-on view with the horizon. I liked the balance with the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image with those of the blues and whites in the skies and clouds above.
Grassy March with Beaver Pond (Voyageurs National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting extending to the south-southeast while taking in views across a pond with a grassy marsh and backdrop of a forest of evergreens. This is from an overlook along the Beaver Pond Trail in Voyageurs National Park. With this image, I decided to zoom in with the focal length to have those pond waters fill the image from edge to edge, wanting to have it take over the image as a setting to just soak in.
Afternoon Explorations in Voyageurs National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting extending to the south-southeast while taking in views from an overlook of Beaver Pond in Voyageurs National Park.
A Wilderness Setting of Trees Around Beaver Pond in Voyageurs National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A captured image from an overlook of Beaver Pond with a view extending to the south-southeast. This is in Voyageurs National Park. My thought in composing this image was to capture a look down and then across through a break in some nearby trees to the pond itself and then more distant forest on the other side. I also wanted to minimize what I felt was the more negative space of the overcast skies and focus on the setting to my front.
Taking Stock of Beautiful Places in Lassen Volcanic National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the south-southeast while taking in views across the waters of Manzanita Lake in Lassen Volcanic National Park. This is located along the namesake loop trail with ridges and peaks of the Lassen Peak Area off in the distance. I had a few thoughts while composing this image. One was to take advantage of the open space between the trees and go with a wider angle view for this national park setting. The other was to bring out more of a sweeping view across the lake waters, by angling my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera slightly downward. The rest was to find a balance between both of the shorelines for the final image captured.
My Every Journey Today in the Lassen Volcanic National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the south-southeast while taking in views across the waters of Manzanita Lake. This was while walking along the Manzanita Lake Loop and in Lassen Volcanic National Park. What I wanted to capture with this image was more of a wider angle view. I decided to angle my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera slightly downward, raising the horizon a little bit and creating more of a sweeping view across the lake waters with its reflections. I liked how both sides of this portion of the lake acted to frame the setting and come together on the other side of the shoreline. Ridges and peaks with Loomis Peak are in the backdrop behind the forest on the other side of the lake.
