Greens of Trees Stretching Up a Mountainside by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I captured this image while driving the Cascade River Road in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. It's a view looking south up Johannesburg Mountain, but it was the clouds hugging the peaks, seemingly either rising up the mountainside or breaking over the peaks. Either way, it was a sight to take in that June morning. But looking at the setting, I knew I've have to meter this properly. Up top were bright highlights in the clouds, caught in the sunlight of the morning hours. Then came a shadowed area under the clouds on the mountainside. Below that was a mountainside of trees with vibrant hues of green. All in all, what I perceived as a large dynamic range to capture. As opposed to using HDR with bracketing images and then software, I decided to try out the in-camera HDR technique with my Nikon D800E, capturing a TIFF image. I could then work with that image in Capture NX2 to bring out more what my eyes saw that day with different CEP filters and color control points.
