Anticipation builds as you climb that winding mountain road to a glorious view. At Great Basin National Park in Nevada, Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive is the road to take you to the top. The scenic drive hugs the mountains of the South Snake Range, slowly winding you to a point above all others. The journey is 12 miles along a paved road, gaining about 4,000 feet in elevation. Reaching that pristine view of the rugged, harsh, yet surprisingly beautiful Great Basin Desert is lovely, but getting there is an important part of the journey.
